I was wondering if i have a syrian hamster would i really need to make the lid ventilated or could i just leave it off? Would it escape? Im plannign on getting a 90qt container. Could i just drill holes in the lid or do i ahve to put mesh?

Mesh is more ventilated then holes, so it's a better idea and as for if you need a lid... it's safer to have one... Less chance of escaping and random stuff falling into the bin.

my syrian has a lid that she cant reach and she's still managed to escape the last 2 nights in a row, eventually climbing up onto my bed to wake me up at half 3. god knows how she does it. she has nothing to climb on that makes her tall enough!
so i would say yes!

if you have a syrian (especially a girl) yes you need a lid. they are masters at escaping and getting into mischief. bless their whiskers lol

There are alot of reasons you should have a lid on your bin:

1. another pet might disturb or hurt your ham
2.ham might escape
3.bin might tip and ham escapes

Hope this helps! :)

that's why i keep my dwarfs' lids on when im out or asleep. they have no chance of escaping, but ferret might escape and get them!
