Hey, I just wanted everyones opinion on this:
what do you think of all those gender steriotypes for dog breds. Grate Danes, Greyhounds, Bulldogs, Salukies, and other tall, skinny, BIG dogs are consdiered "man dogs" and it is "manly" to own one
In the mean time, Chiuaua's papllions, malteas, pom's and other small, fluffy dogs are female dogs, and men that have them are considered "gay"
But what dose a guy do when he wants an apartment small dog, or a girl when she wants an exursize buddy?

Honestly, I think using that term "Gay" is very rude. I have homosexual friends and I don't like things that people don't like considered "Gay". Not to mention the actual term gay means happy,
And its not that the dog is more of a mans dog or a womans dog, its the person looking for the dog. A lot of men don't want small fluffy dogs, but they want large stereotypical "mean" looking dogs. Who cares what other people think.. if you want a small dog, get one. A dog should be what SUITS you best, not how its going to make you look. Dogs are not fashion accessories.
When I see a guy walking a small, fluffy lap dog..I can't help but smile.
Most guys walking their pitties and rottweilers on chains and whatnot down the street, are lacking something in their pants ;)

My brother-in-law has a pom...and he loves it *L*....reckons all the girls keep coming up to ooo and ahhh over the pom *L*. My sister on the otherhand doesn't appreciate that part of it , as you could imagine *LOL*
I'm a big dog person...i want a real dog not a sample....but hey thats me...people have different tastes....if ya want a small dog get one...if ya want a big dog get one...to each his/her own

From what I hear, Tinkerbell "got too big" so Paris Hilton gave her to her mother. Hopefully shes being treated like a dog now, instead of a purse.

I personally like big dogs better. Cody is HUGE and he takes up most of our house. When we walk we have to step up and over him just to get by. I just like them better? My bf prefers cats, and cant understand why people like huge dogs, but its how i grew up. If a man had a pom though, thats just another story lol

"If a man had a pom though, thats just another story lol"
What do you mean with that?
Going by stereotypes, I'd say salukies are more feminine dogs, really. XD
My dogs aren't typical guy dogs, really (going by the big dog stereotype XD), and some people has made comments in the negative direction concerning that. It doesn't really bother me tho, as I can be twice the bitch they are, and I love my dogs. Loke's really perfect size, since I tend to bring him with me everywhere. I wouldn't be able to do that with a great dane, and even Anubis can be a bother sometimes with being a bit too big.
People does tend to react differently to a dog's size. There tend to be more respect/fear/whatever when one is walking a large dog, and people do have a lot of negtive opinions about, for example, a teenage girl with a rottweiler, thinking she's a trouble maker and whatnot. And with small dogs, people tend to think they're oh so cute all the time, even when they're aggressive. >_> Paris Hilton has made me lose faith in most small dog owners, as the later wave tend to treat them as either non-living things, or human babies.
"But what dose a guy do when he wants an apartment small dog, or a girl when she wants an exursize buddy?"
So, um, yeah, eff what other people think, and just get the dog you want. *nods*
"Most guys walking their pitties and rottweilers on chains and whatnot down the street, are lacking something in their pants ;)"
Amen to that. XD

I have a big dog Gradey (He's a rottie, he'll be two next month and weighs in now at over 130 lbs). And to accomidate him better I actually bought a bigger vehicle (I now own a Nissan Pathfiner).
I find it extremely frustrating that people assume he's agressive.
I have a friend who absolutely refuses to come over because she was bit by a big dog when she was a kid. However she has a cocker that has bitten several of her kids friends (she says it's ok because the dog hasn't ever "really Hurt" anyone).
My aunt's Chi Bit my mother in the face (gave her a nast black eye). But for some reason it's OK for small dogs to growl and be agressive (I even saw a commercial with for dog food encouraging small dog agression)
But good lord if my dog so much as barks people freak out. My mother-in-law expects me to lock my dog in a bed room if some of her friends come over beacuse they're afraid. Well the dog lives here, if you don't like it don't come.....
Sorry for the long winded rant but it's been on my chest for a while

I say get the dog who fits your lifestyle! :)
Its funny, all my favorite breeds are large dogs. but whenever we get a foster in, they are either a small breed or a puppy- and its so nice to have a dog you can pick up by yourself. LOL
