Hi all, this is wonderful news. Both mother and her 3 baby gals are doing very good and healthy(from what I am able to see). http://petshub.com/ubb/smile.gif

Any idea what the babies are able to eat? Can they eat fresh vege like thier parents?

Did anyone have this problem I am facing now:The father of the piggies is being separated from the rest but he is very unhappy! I think all he wanna do is to mate with the mother and the kids. Must I steralize him to end this problem? Pls help!

Congrats on the babies! Baby piggies begin eating the same food as Mom hours after their birth. They should have access to unlimited amounts of both pellets and hay, and fruits and veggies a few times a day. They will be nursing from Mom but you should lower the water bottle a bit so they can reach it as well.

Female pigs come into heat within 24 hours of giving birth...keep the boar away from her completely. If she gets pregnant again, its called being 'back-bred' and it puts her at great risk as her body isn't fully recovered from the birth of the last litter. If you neuter the male it will keep him from getting the sows pregnant, but it will not take away his urge to mate. He may be a constant bother to them, trying to mate all the time, and this can stress them out. i'd suggest housing him in a seperate cage next to the sows where he can see them but can't get at them. Neutering a male guinea pig can be risky if the vet isn't familiar with Exotics as they need special anesthesia, etc.

Gee, thanx. Those are really Christmas babies!!! In fact, I transferred my boy into a separate cage so that he would not be able to see them and get all horny! He tried biting the wire fence all the time to try get to the sow to mate so much that I was afraid that he might break his teeth! Now he is in a separate cage from the rest. I hope to get him neutered and then they can all be one happy family. *sob sob* I sure will miss having more piggies!
Any idea when I can bathe my sow? She kinda smells funny and I think has not bathed for a month.
