Okay Runky, I am stealing your idea! I hope you don't mind.
I just thought I'd share some pictures from today of Shorty George and Twister. Shorty and his mum have been inside for the past week or so, and the little boy has been rearing (literally) to get out and play. We let him today. Boy Howdy, what a cutie this kid is! Everybody who sees him just loves him.
You could tell that he REALLY wanted to go up on the hill and visit his buddies, but he was a good boy. We(including his mother) called him and he came running back.
His poor mother. If you look at the colt's hocks, those are scars that the hair has grown back over. Strangely the hair is really that dark.

Why can you see the rib cage on the momma? Is that because she just had the baby?

^^ It's not Mokey's fault the poor mare is so thin. I forgot the whole story but she was neglected by someone else...

GOOD HEAVENS NO! I'm sorry, I forgot and assumed everybody had read the story on the mare in the Everyday Horses thread.
Thank you for noticing, ratbrat. You should NEVER see ribs on a horse like that. Sometimes mares do beomce a little ribby after foaling, but not like that. Most of our mares you can barely tell, except for the fact that they aren't so big and round.
This is a mare whose colt is considerably younger than Shorty. Notice there is not a rib visible. Psh, and that mare was almost slab-sided and hideous when we got her too. What is WRONG with people?!
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h146/MokeyBird/Horses/Belle-1.jpg
The only times we ever have ribby horses are when they are very very old(and sometimes not even then), after a sugery(like when a colt takes gelding hard), or when they come to us like THAT.
That mare is actually recovering from being starved. It is a wonder how she made enough milk to support him even for that short of a time. She actually has a noticeable "bag" now(horsey lingo for udders/milk), which we are happy about. Notice how her neck is kind of sunk in on the top, in between her withers and her poll(Top of shoulders and right behind the ear, for non-horsey people). When she is FINALLY back in good order, that won't be there, her ribs will not be visible, her feet will be back in order...basically she'll be a different horse.
We were so f***ing PO when she came back to us. I hope the next horse that the person who did this rides flips over on top of her and breaks her cruel neck.
I'll piece together the story from the Everyday horses thread. As well as give you links to the pictures of her, if you would like. It all starts on page 135? I think of that thread if you don't want to wait.
I am in the process of uploading more pictures of the ladies that I took tonight.

Thanks Runky, by the way. You are right.
OH I forgot.
Here is "Twister". The colt that the owner just gave us. The mare was bred to our old stallion, had this, didn't like him, because of the legs, and so we are giving her a free breeding to the same stallion, and getting the colt.
When he was born(not on our place).

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h146/MokeyBird/Horses/Windswept3.jpg
(I was told that that is just bascally caused by how the colt was laying inside the mare. )
And now.

Shorty is so cute! I love the way you can tell what breed they are at such a young age! lol I can already see the Saddlebred-ness lol! He's going to be great ;)
It's amazing how the legs can change like that! lol I think you should make them take the colt back now he's all better.

Haha, no way! He is by our 27 year old stallion out of an incredibly bred mare. Dad already wants that ugly thing to be Sultan's Replacement.
My poor fatty mare. She is starting to get whiney. If you ever get a chance to befriend a pregnant mare, you'll see this. They just come up to you demanding tummy rubs and lovin'. Three months to go...Come on September!

Mokey - How many horses do you have total?
MokeyBird
06-25-07, 04:17 PM 06-25-07
Right now, on the farm, we have about 40. It gets wild sometimes. We do it all. Raise, train, give lessons, show, sell. The number will drop here in a couple of months when my sister moves on to her new farm and takes some of her horses with her.

Haha. I can't let you have one, Runky, you know that, but you know I am trying to "convert" you to saddleseat. ;) By the time you succumb, "Blue" will be ready for you!:D Haha. Just kidding.
Man, if you lived in Kentucky, my gates would be open to you to come play any time you wanted.

Cute horses!! How the heck do you remember all those names??
Emily, you can't leave:eek: KY is SOOOO boring, I had to go to hazard KY because dad went up there to work. It looked like a desert, there isn't anything there. Just wal-mart, a couple fast food places and gas stations:(
Runky
06-27-07, 11:34 AM 06-27-07
No, no, no. Virginia is the most boring state. Ever. hah. I'd love to leave this state one day and move out west and live on a ranch. haha. In my dreams. xD
MokeyBird
06-27-07, 06:49 PM 06-27-07
It is easy for me to remember all those names. Mostly it is personalities, and markings and general appearance, and the fact that a lot of them are known by thier breeding and not by thier registered name. "Fizz Mare" "Harlem Town Mare" "Periaptor Colt" "My sister's yearling." "Big Bay Filly" "Pretty Bay Filly", so on and so forth.
And hehe. Hazard is kind of a craphole, I will admit. I went to a band competition or two there, I think. THE places to go if you are going to get into horses are Lexington, Harrodsburg, the area between Lex. & H-burg, Georgetown, Simpsonville, Louisville and ...A lot of the places are nice and green and pretty, and flat. Danville is good too. And yes yes YES there is NOTHING to do. I hated Missouri, but I miss having stuff to do. Let's see...Nope, nothing fantastic to do near me, unless it is county fair time, or you go to Lexington which is half an hour away from where I live. Or you can go see a movie of course in Danville. Heck RunKY, you should just come to the University of Kentucky and do thier Ag/Equine stuff to "try it out". KY I mean. I don't want to pull you away from your buds though, including Sarge and everybody.
No more pictures right now. I'm too tired from a 12 hour day at work. I will work on posting my Ky State Fair Picture Entry Lineup, though.

Oooo Ruuuuunnnnkyyyyyy!
Remember when you said you wanted to try a roadster. Well, I got you some pictures tonight of the Road Horse class at the Lawrenceburg, KY Horse Show. Now these are road hoses, not ponies, as I'm sure you can see. Road ponies are H a c k ney Ponies, and Road Horses are registered Standardbreds.
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h146/MokeyBird/Horses/Lawrenceburg2.jpg

That bay horse in front won the class.
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h146/MokeyBird/Horses/Lawrenceburg6.jpg
My sister is getting an Off the track, registered Standardbred(she's actually getting it this time). So I get a roadster now too! He is coming from a Standardbred rescue place.
I really DON'T look my age. And being about a foot shorter than my sis, doesn't help. I am a shrimp, okay. Tonight my sister and I were talking to this one guy and mentioned how she was getting the Standardbred, and he was saying how she couldn't/shouldn't try to drive a Roadster with a freshly healed broken arm. I chimed in and said "I'll do it!" The guy gave me the humoring look and said "You'll do it? Okay. If you say so." I felt like he was about to pat me on my head. You betcha I'll do it. I've wanted a road horse since I was 8 years old.
This would have been a cool picture if it had come out better and less blurry, but here is the Junior Exhibitor Country Pleasure class in the line up. There were 18 in the class.
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h146/MokeyBird/Horses/Lawrenceburg.jpg
And this is the line up in the (I THINK) Amateur Fine Harness class. It was some Fine Harness Class anyway.
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h146/MokeyBird/Horses/Lawrenceburg7-1.jpg
Well, I hope you like them. They aren't the best, but heck, the horseshow isn't the greatest. I can't wait for Mercer County. I can't wait. I can't wait. I CAN'T WAIT!!! I saw to of my competitors in the yearling class, and heck, Tony just might do alright!

That's a beautiful filly! I want her :D
lol maybe I'll go to the University of Kentucky.....just so I can come visit every once in a while ^.^ Sounds like fun. Especially since I've never actually seen a baby horse in person! Maybe if I come in springtime I'll be able to visit :p
lol I'm planning way too far ahead and getting myself all excited :D
First I've gotta get through high school lol...
I love seeing the pics from shows! Now, in the Road Horse Class, do the horses go at a trot?
And yay for bay horsies ^.^
WOW! The horses in the fine harness class look so....REGAL! Like, royal! They're beautiful ^.^ I want a horse like that one day. Maybe I'll have to own a saddlebred...and a thoroughbred.....and an Arabian....and every horse on earth

Mmm, mmMM! He's so handsome! One of the big Saddlebred trainer guys who we had down the other day said he really likes him. hee hee. I don't think I could see a big timer like that riding a horse named "Hot Tony" though. Haha

I've got some more pics in the works(uploading) right now, so I'll be back by tomorrow with them. Stupid Dial up.
Runky, they wouldn't let you take pictures inside? That is odd. For me at least. But I guess I understand why you couldn't. You need a camera like my mom's. You can take great indoor pictures without a flash. It's like $800 though, darn it.
And m0usey, by all means, even if you don't go to UK, if you are ever in the neighborhood, feel free to drop in. Haha. ;)

And of course...Fresians. They "won" the class. It was more of an exhibition than a class really.
This is just the coolest picture.

I haven't posted pictures of the geldings in a long time, SO! Here they are. I cleaned these guys up today. They were very happy with me. Indian was in my pocket, and Harry was trying to hog me all to himself.

Yeah, the bay horse was an orphan out of a nearly starved mare(so mom tells me. the horse is the same age as me). The mare died having him.
And the chestnut injured himself so badly as a colt that his immune system shut down.
That is the reason both thier backs are low. That is why Shorty's back will probably be low.
And Runky, racking is the four beat gait that saddlebreds can do. The "Slow Gait" is a slower more collected version of it. The faster one can do it *In form* the better. Some of those horses can fly. The black horse with the blaze in one of my posts I absolutely LOVED. He didn't place for some reason. Dad even liked him.

Im going to work on a farm in NY where there are sort-of similar horses...like the ones you rescue....We have a TB named Sevann...man...he looks so thin...but he used to be a racehorse I guess and he was so outta shape when Nancy(the owner) got him it was hard to get him back in shape....hes REALLY old and hes reeeeally skinny because of his age,his condtions(he also has arthritis), and because about 2 years ago his friend died...I havn't been there in a year (I go there once a summer and BTW its a children's farm....)but I talked to the owner and she said he isn't any better but hes not any worse so.....but hes really sweet...there are mostly minis though and about 3 or 4 I think are preggy...she said 1 already foaled and ones due around now so Im reeeeeal exceited...I will get to halter train one baby and watch another grow (hopefully....)Im scared though because my friend is coming and she tends to not listen and be childish....thats NOT GOOD on a farm as I guess most of you know....but...we'll see how it goes....she'll be doing pony rides mostly....how hard can that be?? you lead a shetland (theres also a mule but I am not letting her even TOUCH him)around a fenced in area......although Im still not sure because shes a beverly hills girl....:O...anyways....your babies are ADORABLE!!!! IM GONNA COME TAKE ONE!!! There are soooooooo cute!!!
