I have to vent. So yesterday my family went over to our friend’s house for 4th of July, and some relatives of theirs came over. Well the mom of the relatives was telling me how she has these two parakeets and how much she hates them. She doesn’t like to touch them, they never come out of their cage, they have no names, and she just wants to get rid of them. Oh and the cage they’re in is so incredibly small, it would be too small for one let alone two that never get out of their cage. They didn’t even know how to sex these poor birds. They’ve had them for about 3-4 years.
Well they’re going on vacation soon and I’m going to be watching these birds and I think she’s going to just give them to me. She made little comments about just forgetting to pick them up and how much she hates them and wants them to go away.
And the icing on the cake is the fact they want to get a Lovebird. So I quickly jumped in and told them how long they live (and added that budgies can live for 10 or more years with proper care) and the horror on their face would have been amusing if it wasn’t so frightening.
I just couldn’t believe these people would treat not just one living creature like that but two. I never really planed on getting a budgie but these birds need a better home and fast.
