I have a new obsession with fish keeping! I am saving up money for a 200 gallon tropical community tank. (I plan on just having tropical community fish in it.)

They were giving away the over stocked fish at work today (PEtSmart), and I was the only person who worked there who had any kind of tropical tank. (I have a 10 gallon with just a male betta),so I took some. I took the only Dwarf Gourami, 1 Sunburst Platy, 1 blood fin tetra, 2 zebra Danios, 1 red wag platy, and two other platys I can't really identify at the moment, i forgot what they are..but when I go to work Saturday I will take a mental note. Anyway, is a 10 gallon tank enough for all of them, or is that over stocked? I can always get a 20 gallon..and I CAN put a betta with them right? They are all tropical Community fish.
I already tested the nitrate, Nitrite, PH, Hardness, Ammonia, Chlorine, etc levels..and everything is perfect..and the temperature is 80 degrees, and it was 83 at PetSmart...and they are all very active, and the betta isn't messing with them at all..Its funny, through the glass he trys to attack other bettas, but with these guys he seems very happy to have some friends. One of the zebra danios is chasing the other one..Could they be a male and female? Or do you think there will be a problem?

Yeah, that's pushing the limit a little bit... The general rule is 1" of fish per gallon. Honestly, you could probably get away with it, but the tank would be overstocked and would probably be unstable.

The tetra and Danios would probably appreciate some buddies, too. They're both schooling fish. The danios are chasing each other because there's not enough of them, they need more. The gourami may not get along with your betta for very long, either. I've never tried it, but I've read that gouramis and bettas don't work...

Also, if you attempted adding them all at once, then you definitely might send the tank out of w. Keep testing the water frequently...

I hope that helps a bit! :)

Alright, then I am definitely upgrading to a 20 gallon for the gourami, the platys, the two danios and 3 more danios, the bloodfin tetra and two more tetras..and then using the 10 gallon for the betta and maybe a couple mollies?

So far Kaiser (betta), and the gourami haven;t messed with each other. They swim near each other and see each other, but haven't done anything. The gourami is hanging out towards the bottom, in the plants..and kaiser likes to swim along the top.
