Since I earn my own money now, i buy the dogs food! I found a good food at Costco, it has the same ingredients as chicken soup for the dog lovers soul, but is a LOT cheaper. Its even cheaper then Beneful (What my mom was feeding the dogs). Its Kirkland Signature Super Premium Adult Dog Chicken,Rice and Vegetable Formula dog food. The dogs haven't tried it yet, i am going to mix it with the rest of their Beneful in a few minutes. They better like it.

Lucy now eats Innova! :). I bought her a small bag, and 4 cans..She didn't touch it, so I gave most of it to the other dogs (They will eat anything), but I had one can left over..and she finally decided to eat it. So now the other dogs eat the imitation Chicken Soup, and Lucy eats Innova. (Her coat was in great shape anyway...She ate Nutro Max which I know isn't great, but it sure made her healthy..She still won't eat dry though.)

Now its time to work on the cats! I buy the dogs food now, so i may be able to talk my mom into getting a higher quality cat food for the cats. (I buy Paris and the kittens a better quality food already). I didn't see any Kirkland Signature cat foods though :(

Thats great news!

I am very curious about this. How many pounds of dog food do you go through a month? I know you have all small dogs so I am sure its not that bad but I have always been super curious about that :) Also same with the cats? How many pounds of food if you even know since you weren't the one buying the food.

I have never heard of Kirkland dog food before. But the ingredients don't look to bad (I looked it up our of curiosity). Chicken soup is still a higher quality food by the looks of the ingredients, I compared the two and Kirkland isn't as good as chicken soup. Chicken soup has more meat sources.

I am actually looking to switch my dogs to Merrick and if Merrick has a cat food the cats will get it as well. I want something better for the animals and Merrick seems really great and its at a pretty decent price.

Kirkland is made by Diamond Dog food company, the maker of Chicken Soup.

In a month, i go through about 80 pounds of dog food. (That was on the beneful, I will probably go through less now). For cats I go through about 4-5 bags of cat food (The largest bag..I forget how many pounds it is).

Since my area isn't up to date on "good vs bad" food, what is the best crappy food? lol... oxymoron, yea, I know.

Punky - Yeah I did see that it was made by Diamond Pet Foods when I looked it up.

Whoa thats a lot of dog food lol I go through only 36lbs of dry dog food a month but I also only have 2 dogs and they also get wet food along with the dry kibble.

hitbystars - I do not think there are any "good" crappy dog foods, at least not to me anywas. Chicken soup is only $22 for an 18lb bag here in Vegas, so its pretty inexpensive for the high quality that you get.

Any food with corn, wheat, soy, or by-products is crap and should not be fed.

hitbystars - if you HAVE to feed a crappy food I guess I would probably go with something like Purina Pro Plan or Blue Buffalo.

haha Punky I have my dogs on that also. My mom wouldn't listen to me about food and we had them on a really low quality diet.
She always said "even I know Beneful is a bad food and I wouldn't buy that" So I showed her the ingredients in the dog food we get and in beneful and they were almost the same.
So I convinced her to go with the Kirkland brand for now, because it's is a pretty good food.
I'm working on getting a higher quality food right now, but one step at a time.
They had kirkland cat food at my costco, wonder why they don't have it at yours.
Good job though getting them on better food.

They may have it at mine...I just went there to get dog food, cause we are almost out, and to renew my costo membership. I am sure if I look for the cat I will find it.. And I can probably convince my mom to buy it, since I am sure it will be cheap..and shes not buying dog food anymore, so she can spend more on the cat food!

I looked in the stores that the website said sold it, but they don't. I asked employees about it, & they had no idea.

FC: Blue Buffalo isn't a "crappy" food, and it isn't cheap. :P It's ingredients are up there with Wellness.

I forgot to ask Punky, how’s that new job going?
Do you like working there or have you just completely gotten sick of people who don't know anything about pet care?
I was just curious. I was thinking about that yesterday when I was at the store and every employee that I talked to knew nothing and I wish more people like you worked at my store

I like it a lot! So far everyone who has just gotten a new pet, or is going to get one listens to the advise I give them. One person was about to leave with a bag of pine, and I stopped them and told them why it was bad, and they switched to aspen. A family came to get a Syrian hamster, and asked me pretty much what they would need...and I showed them everything they needed, picked out the best food we have (Which is mazuri), and the biggest cage I could find. And they listened very well to my information, and I even gave them some care sites that they could look at online.

I have run into a few backyard breeders of dogs..I didn't have anything to say to them.

Some of my colleagues annoy me because of their lack of knowledge...Some don't even know what a Syrian hamster is, they are known to them as "Honey Bear longhaired hamster", or "black bears". Tsk Tsk.

I had an interview at petsmart today! That brand was out of stock though...

Manager said he will interview others & call me back. blah. I hate that statement!

Hey punky that’s great that you like it and haven’t become discouraged from people not knowing things. I’m glad you’re there to give people good advice on animal care…someone has to at those petstores.
There’s nothing you can say to those byb’s, they don’t listen to anyone so it’s probably better you didn’t say anything.
Well anyways, glad you like it there!

kirkland is a great food for the price. i mentioned it here before but people kept trying to put it down saying it's not as good at chicken soup :p the cat food is $9 for 20 lb here.

to whoever said they wanted to switch to merreck, i wouldn't do that. for the price go with orijen, if not get canidae

i wouldn't feed anythign innova after reading this..

scroll down a bit til you see the kibble.
something about that site is that they are against raw food, and claim it killed a dog, when really the raw was fed with kibble, allowing the bacteria in the meat to multiply (raw and kibble digest at different rates).
