Pixie is getting ready to foal. It will be tonight. EEEEEK!!! My baby is here at last. Poor Pix has been so uncomfortable. When I checked her after work she was all sweaty and waxed up.

When we checked her at ten thirty, she was restless and pacing. I'll check her at midnight and see where she is at.

Here she is today at six.

Growly.

And waxing.

Oh! I just want her to get it over with!

Like you have to ask, but I'll have pics tomorrow, if she does in fact have it.

Thanks. So do I. Ugh. Midnight check, she was just haning out, trying to get comfortable. My poor lady. Every time I go up there she comes over and sticks her nose on my cheek or in my hair and then presses her neck against the gate for scratches.

Oh I know. This is her first baby and she is very inexperienced. My last check, she was pacing non stop and instead of stopping for neck scratches, she would stop with her belly next to me for belly rubs. Aww, my poor Sugar.

Ugh. But I was right(ish). She had him just a little after three thirty, and she is exhausted! Poor lady.

He is plain brown(red chesnut right now, like his momma), with *maybe* two white hind pasterns. He is soo tiny. His neck is six miles long and sits right on top of him. He is very fine, and his legs are incredibly long. I hope he can use them. But who cares about that now. I HAVE MY BABY!!

Now time for sleeps. Goodness I hope I work tonight and not this mornin....And don't worry. I'll get pics later today before I go to work.

Hehe, I was only able to go up there today after he was "tucked in", so I just stood and gave my lady some much needed loving.

She's being a great mom. She is very possessive of him when it comes to the other horses. She got all pinny and humpy when some of the "bachelorettes"(our mares without babies) were peeking in the barn. And she is a usual doll towards us. She doesn't give a hoot what we do with him.

Mom said that he was licking the mare's water today. What a dork!

Luckily I have off tomorrow and can get some more pics of the Scamp one.

:bawling:MY POOR BABY!!:bawling:

This evening I noticed that he couldn't get up, so I browbeat mom into calling the vet. He said something like this can be life treateningly dangerous.

Here is what I posted on HC.

Joint Ill. In his stifle.

Vet got here, gave him a lot of fluids which were a concoction of what sounded like everything under the sun. I couldn't hear much. I was holding my mare and she is in heat(a bit early I though it may be) and she was trying to attack the ponies peeking in. She was awful.

After he gave him the fluids, he picked him up and got him to his feet.

He's going to get here early in the morning if he makes it through the night, to flush the stifle of bacteria or something that I couldn't really hear.

He is very alert though. By the time I left, the banamine had kicked in and he was walking better on the leg. I HOPE we caught it in time.

If we didn't catch it in a timely manner, we are either going to lose the little guy, or he, at best is going to have stiffness in the joint for the rest of his life.

There are four ways to contract it, according to our vet. Inhalation, oraly, through the naval, or through the placenta.

Things are looking grim. But he has such a good attitude and is very alert. He ate as soon as he was stood up, even though he was filled to the brim with fluids. His body functions are normal. He does have pretty high fever though.

From my first google link of my "Joint ill/Naval Ill" search.

UGH.

Well, I checked him at two, just because I can't sleep. He got up on his own. He was a little unsteady, and stumbled a little bit, but caught himself.

He walked putting weight on both back legs. Only a little gimp in his affected leg. And he ate well for about half and then came up to milk-slime my flashlight.

Oh I HOPE HOPE HOPE he'll be okay. He is so bright and alert.

Oh please let him be alright!

In the words of Homer Simpson, "JesusAllahBudda! I love you all!"

When I came down to let my dog outside, dad told me that the colt was up and going just fine.

I was a few minutes later than the vet getting to the barn at roughly ten am. The guys good ol boy assistant was trying to catch my mare with my mom, and she was having none of it and was getting pretty worked up. Baby was running along behind her, on all four legs. Mom opened a stall and I caught her and held her, and of course, she relaxed.

The baby was just wandering around checking people out. He came up and tried to nurse me(tee hee, he sticks his head under your arm) and then thought he would be big and wear a halter by putting his nose in the loop of the lead rope.

He had made such a dramatic change in twelve hours that the vet decided not to flush his stifle. The colt's temperature was back to normal. The swelling had gone down. He could(obviously) get up on his own. He wasn't favoring the leg. The vet thought he'd go with it, and try not to flush it, because by doing something that invasive, could do as much harm as good to the joint. So he gave him another IV of the equivalent of liquid Rolaids, and gave him a shot of something.

If he has any adverse change to the leg, we are to call immediately, and have the vet back out. Any swelling, limping, favoring.

I said he's got Gloves in him. You can't kill 'em with an axe. (in reference to the mare's sire, Golden Gloves)

Oh I am so incredibly happy. Today is not going to SUCK as badly as I thought it would. He is a tough little guy. I hope after all this medicine he gets better quickly. Or slowly. Key word is Better.

Yay! I'm so glad he's better! That would be terrible if you lost such a terribly sweet little boy. Haha, he tries to nurse from you? *giggleSNORT* That's so cute!!!
