Hi,
I've heard alot of you guys talking about bin cages and I think they sound like a neat idea.
Anyways as my syrian hammy has gotten bigger, his cage is getting way too small. So I decided that since my birthday is in 2 weeks and I'll be getting a surplus of money that I'd construct him a larger one.
How do I go about it? How did you guys make yours?

I don't know myself but I did a quick search to see if I could find anything to help you and came up with these:

Hope those help :3

I got ideas for my bin cage by searching for images at various search engines like Google and also going to photo hosting websites like Photobucket and searching for images there. Something else I did was I used one of the tubes that they sell for the Crittertrail cages and connected two bin cages together, just for extra room. I don't have any hamsters right now so my bin cages are empty, or else I'd take a picture for you. If you search in the right places, I'm sure you'll find some good photos to give you some ideas.

Thank you both :)
I've been looking around and I think I have the basic idea of how to make one.

Well I thought I update with my bin cage...I'm still working on a second level to be added later. Its pretty simple, but Oreo loves the added space :)

Looks nice! I'm sure Oreo's thrilled to have so much room :)
Give us a picture update again when you get that second level in!

Whoa I'd LOVE something like that for my rats.
It looks very simple. Can you put in steps how you managed it?
I think I'm going to look it up.

This isn't really appropriate for rats actually. Rats are larger than hamsters and enjoy climbing so they do best in multi-level cages. They are also more sensitive and prone to respiratory problems so tanks and bins and anything else this enclosed are generally not recommended as ammonia smells build up faster.

You CANNOT put rats in a BIN CAGE. Absolutely not. Your cage is too small for four rats as it is.

DBL, it is not too small, if it was then why on other forums do people give good reviews for up to six rats?
Anyway I wouldn't be able to use a bin cage anyway.
Thanks, though, darksong.

Sorry I meant to say four.

I'm glad you posted pictures of your bin cage... do you have any pictures from the top looking in? Your hammie is adorable, and it makes me miss my hamsters. I'm sure someday, if our local shelters ever get any, I'll probably try to adopt if I can.

Thanks,
I still don't have any pics of the cage with the second level in it yet. I've been really busy lately. I'll get to it soon though, I promise :)

I love the idea of bin making... I'm think that maybe once I start to have more free time (mother of a 2 and 1/2 year old and a 2 month old) I'll make some for my babies! that way I can make some shelving and put them on that ... right now they are all over the living room... just high enough for my kids to see them but not touch them.
