Ok wel 2weeks ago my sister bought a baby hammy from the pet store cos my mum finally let her get one and we got it home and everything seemed normal except the fact that she won't stop biting people we have done loads of research and both me and my mum have had hamsters in the past and never known this to happen we always wash our hands before handling her to make sure we don't smell of food etc. and we have tried just talking to her in the cage andgiving her treats off our hands but she just ignores the treats and bites us my sister has even tried wearing a pair of gloves but she still gets bitten does anyone have any ideas how we can stop this because at the minute my sister is even to scared to feed her and i am having to do it and she seems so sweet but she really is well you could almost say aggressive :S

hey :) every hamster is different some settle in straight away and you can play with them a few weeks after having them some take longer to settle in and take longer to tame you just have to be patient unfortunately. Carry on trying to incorrige your hamster out every night (when she's awake) by putting a treat in ur hand and placing your hand on the outside of the cage (hamsters dont really like there territory being invaded unless ur feeding etc) if she isnt interested at all and you've tried for a good few days (she isnt even coming nrer to your hand) then u need to start from the beginning and just let her sniff ur fingers from the outside of the cage. Even when you eventually get her out she might still be frightened or unsure and bite for a while but this is normal and it'll usually stop after a few months at the most, i wouldnt use gloves (unless you really have to) as she wont really be gettin used to you or your smell then (just from experience) and she'll just bite you when you take the gloves off. ok well i hope this has helped! el

Just out of curiosity, what type of hamster do you have? I only ask because in my experience, syrians are easier to tame than dwarves, and certain types of dwarves are easier to tame than others (i.e. Campbell's are easier to tame than Robovoskii's).
