We use to breed cockatiels so we have lots =)

This is Fluffy the daddy. he is an OLD man he is over he life expectancy so we will be so sad when he goes.. He lost his partner and his sister already so we charish the time we have. he has gotten grumpy at times in his old age though lol..

Tinkerbell the shy girl. I would love to get her in with the next pic Rocky but they just don't get along good enough to be in the same cage alone.

Rocky the one who is so much like his dad =0) loud mouth ha ha

and show off lol

I will probally keep him too, but he has a temper and can really hurt when he wants so I am happy to give him a happy home, but he doesn't get along with Harley my male...sigh ya know. =) I will have to keep letting them out separate.

this is my sisters parakeet who I take care of..this is Thunder, mine died he was blue and named storm. They both have a problem with thier beak getting over gron, but we get it trimmed. The only problem is it is so stressful for this guy to even cathc him he ends up getting hurt trying to get away from us, so sometimes I wonder if we should just leave it be.

They're beautiful birds.

Putting Romeo & Bud together shouldn't have really been allowed to happen in the first place.

You can (should) try to seperate them & push the cages together. This way they don't stressed about being seperated & you won't end up with unwanted chicks.

It sounds like you're removing the eggs as soon as they lay, right? this will cause your female to continue to lay. She needs to have the oportunity to sit on (unfirtilized) eggs for the full duration. Once she realizes they won't hatch she will give up & this will reduce her egg laying dramatically. Excessive egg laying would also be bad for her health, give her extra calcium & protien (cooked shook egg) during these times. Alternatively you can also buy fake eggs & very gradually (if she allows this to happen) remove an egg at a time & replace it with the fake eggs & let her sit on them for the duration.

One other thing you could try is buying a brand new cage with a partition in the center so they're caged together but the partition keeps them seperate.

I have experience with caring for them in this state..and yes I let her lay on the eggs which never hatch ever...that is not the problem at all. She will only lay on the the first day or so after laying each egg and then give up..but she lays so many even keeping them in ther..she lays them in her food bowl and on the floor of the cage. She doesn't have a nesting box and we do never intend on letting them hatch. They are not fertile also. I have birds that are alone that lay eggs as well. They just do it.

I give them lots of cuttle bone and egg..along with veggies and good stuff. Their downfall is all the seed lol.actually they eat very well.

I understand what you are saying about putting them together, but what will it hurt if the eggs don't hatch and she lays them with or without him?

sigh

The continual laying will stress her body out too much. She can become very ill from this as their bodies don't cope with too much egg laying.

she lays once in spring time..but like 8-12 sometimes more. I know it is stressful..but she does it with or without being with him. Tinkerbell lays eggs too and she is alone.

I do take very good care of them, but I can't prevent her from laying.
