About six weeks ago I got two little Campbells hamsters, I got them from the same group in the store they were the same size and age. Everything was just fine at first, then they seemed to have kind of rolling fights but they weren't trying to bite each other, it was more like wrestling, I think to see which was the dominant hamster. That lasted like one night and then things were fine again. Then just yesterday, Ivan got out. We still don't know how he did it, I have a two level wire cage, but we know they can't squeeze through the bars. He practically crawled into my dads lap later when we found him, so they put him back. He was probably only out a few hours at most. Now this morning I woke up to squeaking from the cage, I look over and there is Ivan, near the front of the cage, just sniffing and climbing like always. I keep watching, and then here comes Peter out of the house, sees Ivan and darts at him and starts a fight, more squeaking ensues, Ivan flips over and bares his teeth and all that, and then the fight is over. Right now I've put Peter in the top level with some water and fluffy stuff, it has a wheel and a house too so he has all the amenities of the lower level, and blocked off the entrance so they are like two seperate cages. I've noticed that Peter has gotten bigger than Ivan.
My question is, is this temporary bickering or should I seperate them permanently? They've been just fine for six weeks until this! They are about five to six months old, btw. Thanks!! :(
