I need help with pet insurence... I have two shih tzu dogs to cover with it. My vet gave me information for petplan ... just curious if anyone knows of a better insurance plan then this one?
I'm located in Ontario, Canada...
If not, that cant anyone help me with choosing or explained to me what each category in the plan means?

Unless your animals become chronically ill, most of the time it's better to take the money that you would pour in to insurance (which you may or may not use) and just put that money plus whatever else you can afford in to your own vet fund. If you set up a savings account, you can even draw interest on that money, so you get a return on whatever money is left over instead of it just being gone forever.
I'm not saying that pet insurance is necessarily a scam... it's good for people who have pets that are prone to getting sick (though, in this case the premiums are always higher when you disclose the illness). However, for the majority of people that will have an emergency, putting this money in your own vet fund (i.e. in the form of a savings account, 'shoebox' fund, etc.) is much most cost-effective.

I agree, somewhat.
It depend on your breed really. I would say smaller dogs need it less than larger breeds. Ea; labradors, german shepards, any other type of shepard (australian etc), collies, whatever.
We have insured our black lab dexter until he is one (sometimes you can get a good 1yr lasting deal) and then we will rely on out Vet Fund.
This isn't a bad thing to do;
As; you have times to save up; but insured them as a Puppy. This is mostly important because as puppies (sorry because this is mainly labz) are that bit sillier and launch them self of things, in things, out things, on things.
So Good Luck.
I recommend you insure them until they are a yr.;)

Pet Insurance pays the veterinary costs if one's pet becomes ill or is injured in an accident. Some policies will also pay out when the pet dies, or if is lost or stolen.
The purpose of pet insurance is to mitigate the risk of incurring significant expense to treat ill or injured pets. As veterinary medicine is increasingly employing expensive medical techniques and drugs, and owners have higher expectations for their pets' health care and standard of living than previously, the market for pet insurance has increased.
