so, after going to the vets because my hammy had a lot of poo stuck to his genetals, they have given me some baytril to give to him orally to reduce the swelling of his penis. They suggested giving it with a bit of honey and water to make him eat up, but he still doesn't take it very well. Im using a syringe (without a needle) and i think i managed to squirt most of it in his mouth when he tried to bite it but i dont think hes going to take kindly to it for the next week. Any suggestions

I dont know if you read it on the rat forum, but i put it there too. I use syrup or margarita mix for these kind of things. Get like the top of a sour cream container, or anything mostly flat with a small lip so he can see it. Put the syrup or whatever on the dish with the medicine on top. Then you can put it in his cage even and just watch him. He'll be more comfortable and eat more in there, not knowing you're around. Make sure you only put a drop, then he'll eat it all and get all his medicine.

also I might suggest putting the needle back on the needle... lol not for him... if he likes fruit the put a little into the fruit little bits at a time... I had to do that with Alfred before he died... it was the only way he'd take some of this vitamins..... he hated it when I added it to the water... so I gave him a little ever day in his apples.

|You have to be cruel to be kind.Pick up the hammy when he's sleeping ,get the syringe(NO NEEDLE) and squirt it into the side of his mouth,he won't like it.No one likes yucky medicine.
