well when i brought my two Chinese dwarf hamsters they told me they was both female, obviously they do not know alot about there jobs as they sold me a male and a female, which the female has given birth to a bundle of new babies,
but its happened now so i just need to know a few things first of all i have seperated the male from the female and babies i have also taken her wheel out, i am trying to stay away from her cage as much as possible as i do not want to disturb her. is there anything else i should be doing to make it easier for her or just to help her. thanks Jon

What age are the babies? You pretty much leave her to it, until they are 2-4wks, when you can touch/hold them. But as you do so make sure to rub your hands in the nest; as so not to put some strange smell on them. pet shops are bad for making mistakes. do you know how long they were in together at the pet shop?

Yeah pet shops are known for this type of things to happen. Which is why its always good to know how to tell the genders apart that way you wont have that trouble.

Um I dont know much about hamsters...or even breeding them. I do know that you can handle them whenever you want actually. As long as the mother trusts you. I wouldnt handle them to much before they get fur but you can some so they get use to it before they get in their nippy stage and your going through biting hams. Do you plan on keeping the pups? If not you need to make sure you know the difference in each gender so you dont accidently give someone 1 male and 1 female.
I wish i could be more help but like i said i have never had ham babies before. Rat pups and gerbil pups are all i have experience with. Good luck with the ham babies. :)

The mother can pretty much handle this on her own. But definitely giver her extra food so that she feels she has plenty. If she doesn't, she may eat the babies. Also, congrats! Watching them grow will be interesting, the little babies are so cute. My Chinese hamster had babies last summer, I kept them all. (My living room now has seven cages in it!)

having hamster pups is fun! First, she might have babies in a few days as hamsters can give birth at different times:P I had all white with black eyed hammies that came from a pet store and I, too, was assured that they were "females" and then 2 days later she had pups and then she had pups a week later and then some more a week later! (even though I seperated them) It was a lot of fun and once they were old enough to be handled I would "watch" them while momma ran around in a run-about ball. I found homes for all of them and kept the mom and daughter for myself:) Sadly, the mother died of old age and the daughter was so sad and by freak of nature I guess god decided they should be together because two days after the mom died, the neighbor's dog got in and broke open the cage and killed her:( Off topic, but anyways you'll have lots of fun with them!:P

Having the pups may be "fun", but it is very sad that the hamster became pregnant.

Which is why you should know how to sex the pet that you plan to bring in to your household to prevent mistakes such as this. That's all part of the research that one must do before bringing an animal in to one's home.
