So...I woke up this morning to find one of my Robo's half eaten, and the other just enjoying herself to her sis. I have NO idea how this happened...they never fought, they got along fine. They weren't sick...I don't know if she was attacked or if she died another way...
I'm more grossed out than anything. I didn't think she'd eat her sis if she died...ewww.
Anyone have ANY ideas? I can't look at the other the same now :p

I've heard of the same thing happening with rats... one will die, and the others will eat it. Somebody on here said that it is because the dead one will attract predators (this is if they were in the wild, of course, and they are acting on pure instinct), so they do it as a self-preservation thing. I bet that the one who was eaten died, and the other ate it for that reason. I'm sorry that happened to you, though... what an awful thing to have to witness.

I figured if she died, it would only be natural for her to eat her sis. It's life or death to them, just like if you and I were stranded on an island together...if I died first, I'd want you to eat me, and vice versa :p
I'm just more shocked than anything. I really think my cat was involved. today I saw her tip up the bin cage lid with her nose and stick her head in. I'm now thinking that she managed to get in the cage, play Godzilla, and then crawl back out.
I've come to this conclusion because the one who is left is being very distant from me. She keeps running away from me so I really think something happened with my cat that got her freaked as well.
That lid now has 5 books stacked on top of it lol. Going to Target this weekend to get a bin cage that has those lids that clasp.

Oooohh...
I'm sorry that happened to you. I just wonder why your cat only went after only one hammie, and why your cat just left her in there afterwards. Well, at least you know that your kitty won't be able to do that again.

yeah it is sort of like, when two animals are living together, one of them dies, they figure it is just a waste of good food not ot eat it. my friend had two mice and they were really close bonded but then one died and the other just thought of it as good food and they don't see it as their friend anymore they see it as food.
EDIT: Oh my cat had a problem with my rattie. He'd always try to get in the cage (thank goodness id always catch him) so i had to buy a clasp lid, they work wonders :D
