Okay, I've completed the divider. Here it is!
~Sorry about the poor lighting. Some of the pics will have 3 very bright light spots. This is me bringing in Light Dude (my lamp) to try to help.~
First (of course) just the divider w/the tools I used:

And ... the other side:

I goofed a little, as you can see. I had to squeeze/wedge it in a little.

I know that now they each live in a really tiny space but I'm working on it. I had a plan but the pet stores didn't carry what I needed. So now I am hunting around to find what I need. Trust me, they will have more space soon.
I'm probably trying this split cage thing waaaaay too late but I thought I'd give it a chance anyway. Atreyu doesn't seem to care much about Jace on the other side. But Jace is not a happy camper. Atreyu only fights after Jace starts the fight. I am a little concerned about a tiny space at the top of the wire. I'm not sure if it's big enough for one to squeeze through. So I put a small little piece of wood on top of the wire. I'm kinda nervous that I messed up somewhere. I had to stop writing this post earlier in the middle just to check on them. When I did, they have already re-arranged everything. And you can tell they have still been at the fence yelling at each other.
~~~ Well, I just checked on them again. (Nervous of what I'll find.) Jace has thrown all the bedding away from the fence trying to get at Atreyu. Atreyu, on the other hand, has piled all of his bedding up against the fence as if he's saying, "Ya know what, Dude? Forget you then!"
Don't know if this'll work but we'll see what happens.
Update!
First, ferrikins, they are somewhere around 7 months old. ... I think ...
I read on some site that I should switch them back and forth at least 4 - 5 times a day to help them better get used to each other's sent. Today I didn't do so well at that. But I did switch them around. They curiously scurried around and never really payed any attention to each other. Only once they met at the fence and They DIDN'T Fight!!!! YAY!!! That's gotta be promising, right? Also, on that same site it said that once both gerbils are sleeping right next to each other on either side of the wire, then it is safe to let them visit without the divider. (Under close supervision, of course.) Well, Jace and Atreyu always sleep inside of their little huts. So I don't see them sleeping out in the open beside the fence, just to sleep next to each other. Anywho, I'm going to work on switching them around more often. I'll keep you updated!
Well that didn't work!
This wasn't funny at the time, but now I think it is. :p
They were getting along fine at the fence so I thought I would try a first attempt at letting them be together. I picked up Jace and placed him in Atreyu's side. They were okay. ...I think... The entire time Atreyu was grooming Jace. Now Jace, I wasn't sure what he was thinking. He was holding perfectly still, not moving one muscle, while Atreyu was grooming him. They did this for about 5 to 8 minutes strait. Then Jace left and went into the hut, popping his head out every now and then. Atreyu wondered around the cage and then went over to the hut. Each time Jace stuck out his head Atreyu would meet him nose to nose. All was fine. Then Atreyu joined Jace inside the hut. Standing near the tank, I bent down to see inside the hut. They were grooming each other and then out of the blue a full blown fight broke out! :eek: I sprung up, threw the hut aside as I snatched up the gerbil knot.
I broke them apart pretty easily. (...The movement I made was almost like cracking an egg open, come to think of it.) Now with a gerbil in each hand, I reach down to place Atreyu in his side of the tank. But before I did, suddenly, Jace bit Me! :eek: Shocked and now trying to hurry to make the pain stop I still have my attention on Atreyu. (I wanted to make sure I ~PLACED~ him in and Not Throw him in! Now, I turn to Jace -- Who Is STILL Attached To My Finger!!!!! What a grip he had! PAIN! :eek: Instantly, I'm trying to , carefully, drop him in his side. Due to the pain, and not thinking about it, I pulled my hand towards me to try to better get him off of me. Which is now allowing Jace to dangle over Atreyu's side of the tank. My EXACT thought was, "NO, No, not over Atreyu's side! He'll fall off and they will be in another fight!" So then I jerk my hand towards my chest, dangling him over the floor out in the open. My thought now was, "CATS!". So I throw my arm back into his side of the tank. Jace is STILL biting me without ever letting go THIS ENTIRE TIME!!!! So now with my arm in his side of the tank, I'm trying to shake him off while also trying togently brush him off with my other hand as I'm thinking, "Get him OFF! Get him OFF! Get him OFF!" FINALLY! He releases me, drops down, and scurries under his hut.
GOOD GRIEF !!! I never knew they had such power in those little mouths. I looked at my finger then looked at Jace as I said out loud, "WELL!!! I guess you're not ready yet, huh?" Now, the pain wasn't THAT bad, but still .... my poor little finger :(
