Hi All,
Im new and just found this site. I hope someone can help with a concern I have. Cinnamon is a male about a year old. Today I discovered that one of his eyes is cloudy. Can anyone tell me the possible problem, explanation, and/or crue? I would greatly appreciate any help!

Does the "cloudiness" seem kinda goopy? Like some is running out the corner of his eye? When a foreign body, such as a hair, dust speck, or small injury gets in or around the eyes, Guinea pigs can secrete a substance to help flush it out. It tends to be a milky white liquid. This is normal for a pig. It might last up to 3 to 4 days. Sometimes flushing the eye with room temp water can help. This will help extract what is bothering it and the milkiness should stop. If the "cloudiness" is located to one particular spot on the eye, this could mean that your pig has possibly suffered a more serious injury to the eye, Respitory Infection, or Glaucoma. They are all potentially harmful, in that they all could have serious outcomes. Blindness, Infection, and even death may occur.
First try the eye wash, then if it still persists try to wash again the next day. If still then call your vet and see if he can get you some type of teramycin-based cream for the eye if it is just an irritation. Other than that I would have the vet do a through examine to make sure it is not a serious condition. Blind pigs do very well as long as you don't ever re-arrange things in the cage and place things back exactly. A Guinea Pig can and will adapt to a blind lifsyle. Good Luck!!!!
