Not all but most of the horses here are rugged, especially the one I ride becuase in his younger days he use to be sent down to cali or florida for the winter so he doesnt grow much of a winter coat so he needs to be rugged.

Yeah, my horse has blankets for winter. The main reason I got them was because he doesn't have a shed to go under when there's bad weather. But now I really like the fact that they are less hairy in the winter so they don't get hot when you're riding them.

The horses here that don't have good enough winter coat on their own gets blankets. Also, if they will be worked regularly during the winter, they get blankets, cause it's a bitch to have to deal with thick winter coat every day or every other day after working them and them being sweaty.

the horse I lease wears rugs all year round - he prob wouldn't need them in winter if he was left natural as he is a native breed, but because he is in work he has a full clip, so wears a few layers of rugs depending on the temperature, and stays in overnight.
In summer, being a black horse, he can get really hot so he tends to come in during the day to avoid the sun because heatstroke has been a problem before. He goes out at night and sometimes wears a light turnout sheet if its raining.
What does sun bleached mean I've never heard of that - is it just that the coat changes colour?
