my horse, beauty , is being very cheeky!!!

every time i want her to go somewhere (like the path)
she backs up and wont go!
the only time she will go is if someone is infront of her or i get off her and i lead her!! It'd really annoying and dangerous! Because there was one time when i was walking on the road.
How can i teach her to not do that??

Because both me and the horse could get hurt!

Please help!!!!

Have you ever heard of Clinton Anderson? I am a fan of his. He is a great teacher. You do not need to buy all of his fancy patented halters and such, but the DVDs and television shows are well worth watching. If you have cable or directv look up the channel RFD-TV and you can watch some of his shows.

I totally understand. You can see the progression. Stopping, backing up, backing up faster, and I can see two possibilites after that: spinning and bolting or rearing and throwing herself...on you.

How is her groundwork? Is she respectful of your space on the ground? Does she listen to cues? Clinton Anderson believes that nearly all problems can be solved by gaining respect and control on the ground.

If it helps, Clinton Anderson is from Australia. He moved here about 10 years or so ago and has made it rich among us gullible "quick fix" Americans.

Sorry I couldn't have been more help.

You should try www.horseforum.com . I believe there have been several "No go. Help!" topics in the training section. Good luck!

CA is pretty expensive. I'd look for used on an auction site.

One person you could look up(following that direction) is Clinton Anderson's mentor and teacher, Gordon McKinley from QLD. I read just a snippet and it looks like he does clinics in your neck of the woods.

I totally understand what your saying. A horse I ride has been having major right lead trouble. We have been counter bending him to kind of force him to take it. He gets all upset and starts backing up because he dosent get his way. When he starts to pop his front end is when it gets dangerous. What I do is (because he is not actually afraid of something, and if this is the case with you, you may want more of a Clinton Anderson desensitizing approach) is I just turn him in a small circle while urging him forward. Try doing alot of area work, and almost dressage type stuff to get beauty to move off your leg and respect your personal space. Because if she dosent respect you, you may as well be a grease spot on her hoof (to be blunt). Like I said, try some approach and retreat with small circles (if she is circling, it makes it nearly impossible for her to buck, rear, or take off) and I wish you the best of luck!
