My parents hate my hedgehog and want to get rid of it:bawling:, but I don't know anyone that could take care of a hedgie, let alone an adult male hedgehog. What should I do?:bawling:

If you would like, you can email me privately and tell me where you are located, and I can try to find someone in your area that might be able to help you out.

Please be aware that hdgehogs are ILLEGAL in California, and if found, they can be seized and euthanized.

Don't worry. I live in Illinois. The hedgehog breeder I got Habi from informed me that a liscence is only needed to sell exotics, not to keep them.

Yesterday I went up to the hedgehog cage, picked up Habi's sleeping bag, and I actually talked to Habi (please don't think I'm crazy!) Not the usual stuff I say to him like how cute he is, no, I said "Habanero! I mean buisness, if you can't behave in front of my parents, then you're out of here." Then, he uncurled very quickly and nicely walked onto my hand as if I had said the magic words. Wierd or what? Anyway, I convinced my parents that Habi really was tamer that they thought.

Ohh I'm so HAPPY for you!!! I know how hard it is to have to give a pet away that your attached to:bawling: ! Don’t worry about the talking thing. When I’m home alone in the presents of an animal my mouth moves a mile a minute, talking or singing. I think it is good for them (and us humans) the sound can be company and they will get to know your voice. :agree: :D

*is very very giddy* *calms down enough to type* I've talked to Habi before, but that was the first time I actually told him to do something. By the way, I have you on my AIM buddy list now.

Now i have another problem with my parents. As anyone here who also posts on the hamster, gerbil, mouse, or rat forums might know, I'm building an animal treadmill and was trying to trick my parents into thinking that I need another animal for that(I love rodents). As it turns out, I actually DO need another animal for that because Habi isn't very cooperative. The hamsters and gerbils at the petstore I go to absolutely loved the animal treadmill I made and ran on it even without me putting a treat at the end of it. Habi refuses to run on the treadmill even if I put his favorite treats at the end of it. He'll get on the treadmill and start hissing and fall off as soon as it starts moving. I think this wil be a very traumatic experience for my hedgie if this keeps happening. How can I convince my Dad that Habi just isn't a treadmill-running animal?

maybe just find a clear room or a hallway that is safe, and let him run around in it a few minutes every day so that they see that he DOES exercise, but just doesnt like the treadmill.
If that doesnt work, just tell that if he was a hedgehog, would he rather run on a treadmill or run freely wherever he wants?

I hope that your parents let you keep your baby. I just got a hedgie and I can't imagine life without him now. Just in case, I live in Ohio and could come get little Habi if you ever need a home for him. Hopefully that won't happen, but just in case.
