Horsey people out there, c'mon lets talk.... it's so funny, how we don't talk anymore.... if you know the singer and the song that line came from you're as sad as me lol
So. I've not been on PH much recently but I guess i've not missed much because no one else seems to have been here either!
I've been busy, like most people. I'm working full time and leasing a lovely horse, who i adore and i really wish belonged to me....sigh. Is anyone else in the same position? head over heels in love with horse that's not yours? Sometimes i feel a little vunerable as one wrong move from me and the owner could tell me to get lost... or they could just say they don't want any help anymore then i lose him... i told myself loads of times not to get too involved and tried not to get too attached but its impossible not to really. Would love to have a horse of my own one day but not in this global credit crunch!!
He's a good boy but needs quite a bit of schooling. He's 9 but hasn't really done much apart from ing. he's very willing but is quite stiff. Its not a physical problem as his back, teeth etc have been checked out, just schooling needed i think. currently we are working on lots of turns and circles in walk trot and a bit of canter in the school but if anyone knows any tips on to help get a horse supple i'd love to hear them.
I'm also trying to teach him some simple moves like rein back and how to do a turn on the forehand, thats about the extent of my dressage knowledge but I'm hoping to learn more! I'm hoping that will improve his flexibily as well. he's picking it up quite quick he's pretty clever.
Anyway enough rambling from me. Well done and thank you if read all the way down to here!
peace to everyone out there, even if you're a little shy to post (don't be :))

just to fill in the gaps... he's not done much apart from h a c k ing (funny how it erases that word - why - its not offensive to anyone is it?)
the joke i attemted to make at the bottom was a picture of a star which didn't seem to appear on screen so now i feel a bit silly :)

Hey! Do you have the option to buy the horse? Do you have any pictures of him?
I have a horse named Fancy. She's my best friend and I couldn't imagine life without her. I posted pics a few weeks ago but no one commented. I"ll post some more!! Comment!

Aw she looks like a real sweetie! I like how she takes herself for walks all on her own lol :)
It looks like you have some great places to h a c k out.
Do you go out to competitions and stuff with her?
I've got some pics but can't get them on the computer.. i need some speciall lead for my camera which i still haven't bought but I'll get around to it! To descriibe him, he is a very stout little thing really, not tall but very powerfully built cob type, not sure about his breeding. He's black, has a very pretty and quite a fine head considering his build with these huge expressive eyes, and has a really thick wavy tail and lots of feather. He's also very friendly with people, lets you hang round his neck and cuddle him as much as you want, he loves attention.
I don't think the owner would sell him although she has mentioned it in the past. She hasn't got time for him really but I don't think she could bear to part with him!

aw he sounds like a real cutie! hopefully you can get some pictures of him up!! how often do you ride and what do you guys like to do?
I just pleasure ride with Fancy. We have lots of trails at my barn to go on. I usually bring Bailey with us. I rode tonight actually, haha. She never walks too far away! She usually sticks with her mommy. :)
LoneStar

I ride about 3 or 4 times a week, I try to school him once a week because he is pretty green, working on his schooling and trying to get him to have nice balanced paces instead of charging round like a bull! I ride out the rest of the time, i don't get to do that much in the winter so make the most of it in the summer!
His owner would like to do dressage but I don't think he's ready yet. I've not done a competition for ages, not really that bothered but maybe if I had a trailer etc I would... I'd probably be more inclined to use it to find nice places to ride though...I'd love to ride on the beach but it's too far without a trailer.
Hope you had a nice ride the other day! Who's Bailey then is that your dog?
SweetlilMarce
05-03-09, 08:57 AM 05-03-09
Yeah I know what you mean about charging around! Fancy wasn't broke to ride until she was 9 years old. We're still working on manners, but she's done well. Though...she's perfect in my eyes, haha.
Yes sorry, Bailey is my lab. I take him riding with me the majority of the time.
I'd love to ride on the beach!!! Where do you live?

wow 9 years old! How come it was left so late, was she a companion horse for a while? I live in the uk so never that far from a beach but still not ridden on one (exept on a donkey lol)
Looks like its just you and me on this bit of the forum... where did everyone go?? There's a little bit of life in the family chat :)

Horsey-talks! *bounces* :D I'm finally back to properly working with horses and riding, after having forced breaktime since around christmas time, so I'm over-excited about everything horsey in general. >w>
*invites self into convo*
Fancy's so pretty. X3 It's wonderful to trailride and bring along doggies.
LoneStar, I dunno if I keep missing it, but what's the name of the horse you're leasing? He sounds great. X3
And, I know what you mean about loving horses that aren't yours. I guess my current horses aren't technically mine, though I'm not leasing them and both me and their actual owner count them as mine. XD But when I was younger I was very much in love with this horse that wasn't mine in any way, I didn't even lease him or anything, just helped take care of him as much as I was allowed and able to. Ended up losing him due to various circumstances, so, um, not a very cheerful story. >w>
But, I'm hoping the owner of your horsie is reasonable. :x And wouldn't just shut you off for absolutely no reason. Though (and I really don't mean to be a downer XD;; ), if she's talked about selling him before, make sure she knows to talk to you before putting out an add or whatever in case she does decide? I've heard several sad lease-stories, where the leased horse gets sold to strangers without the person leasing even being asked first if they wanna buy the horse (which'd seem like common sense to me, yanno? But apparently not to everyone). Of course, that's far from every leaser doing that, and I do hope you lease from one of the common-sense-people. XD;;
Ack, now I feel like I've been a total downer, so I'm gonna post pics. Real old ones, since I suck and am lazy with pic taking (and lazy in general and already have these on my photobucket?), but it was a while since I posted them anyway and my horsies still look pretty much the same.

LoneStar-
She was bred and thrown out to pasture for whatever reason. She had some traumatic experiences, though we aren't sure what happened exactly. She has a scar on her eyelid and she used to EXPLODE for absolutely no reason. But she's come a long way and I love her to death. She's a thoroughbred/rocky mountain horse cross which is odd in itself. But I love my little gaited horse cross! She doesn't gait though.
I wish I lived near a beach!! I don't know where everyone went. I stopped coming because members were getting on my nerves with their repeated pattern of getting new animals and then getting rid of them. I work in a shelter, so I see enough of it there!
Bruises-
Welcome!! I love your pictures!! Your horses are stunning. What are they? Do you just pleasure ride too? Or are you into more interesting stuff? haha.

Hi guys!
Bruises, hello! Good to see you back on the nag forum! I have just posted on the family chat about your photos, I love that one of Psycho I don't know if you remember but I asked if I could download it and paint it - I have printed it off and will get round to it one of these days! I don't think I've seen the one of Psycho cantering before but its so so pretty!
The horse I lease is called Tommy, can't believe I didn't mention that lol! He is pretty similar to sleipner except heavier.
His owner and I get on well, as long as I agree with her and do EXACTLY as she says… but that’s the way with leasing I suppose, at the end of the day its her horse not mine. I've always leased horses though, never actually owned one, so I'm used biting my tongue!
I know what you mean about horses being sold from under you, that happened to me :(
A horse i had got on loan turned out to be pregnant and her owner didn't want a foal, so he just traded her for another horse that he could use in his riding school. She went to a good home, but I was so upset because I wanted to keep them both, but just couldn't afford it... I was still at school, already had my old pony, and just couldn't afford three horses and there was no way i would give up my old one - she was pretty much retired by then and no use to anyone so god knows what would have happened to her if I'd given her up.
I always said that when the old pony died I wouldn't get another until I could afford my own, but I missed horses too much, and didn't get much out of going for a weekly riding lesson - i like the yard work as much as anything and love the relationship you build with the horse you see all the time.
So...I have told Tom's owner to give me first refusal if ever she does decide to sell!
Anyway, the turn on the forehand stuff is going really well, he's totally got it now! Ha now I need to learn some new tricks to teach him because that's as far as my dressage goes :)
Sweetlilmarce you seem to have the most amazing relationship with Fancy. It must be lovely to get a troubled horse and each it to trust, if I had money and my own land thats what I'd love to do :)

05-11-09, 05:31 AM 05-11-09
Marce, thank you. X3 Sleipner's some kind of arabian mix (supposedly), and we were told Psycho's a Danish Warmblood but I dunno for sure, he's had several owners before coming here.
I'm pretty much just a pleasure rider. XD I love jumping, and I'd really like to do cross-country, but I have reoccuring rib-issues, so that's a no-go. I'm really not supposed to do any jumping even for fun, but, I just can't help myself. >w> Sleipner's great with jumping. I do some minor dressage things with Psycho, but that's mainly to keep him happy and get his brain working in non-destructive ways (that horse is -too- smart sometimes).
I do work as a groom/exercise rider, but there isn't much advanced stuff either. XD Really, whenever I'm on a horse I have the most fun just trailing along in our own pace, with the occasional jump on the way. XD Don't think I could handle the more competative areas.
And that is quite the awesome mix Fancy is. X3 *loves Rocky Mountain horsis*
Sounds like you had lots of work to do with her, great to hear she's done so well. As LoneStar said, must be a great relationship. I might've missed you saying it, but, how long have you had her for?
LoneStar, haha, thanks. Man, I can't believe we've all been here since 2005 (with individual breaks, of course, but still), that's quite some time. XD Is good to see sensible people around. X3
I love black horses. X3 And heavy ones ...and light ones, and ...I just pretty much love all kinds of horses. D: Though I do kinda like extreme ends of the scales. XD Love draft horses. >w>
...anyway! Random side-track. I'm writing this on the go, passing by the computer, adding a few sentences, on to things to do, adding a few more sentences later on. XD
Haha, I though I was just being blind and didn't see his name. XD But, yeah, the leasing thing seems to tricky. But I guess as long as her demands for Tommy are reasonable, it works?
Aw, sorry to hear about your bad experiences. :< That does really suck, especially not being able to afford, but that's often how it is with horses, I guess. ):
But I totally understand you not being able to give up your old pony, I can't understand people that don't seem to have any problems with that. I get having to sell when you (general you) really can't afford, but, if the horse worked with a person and was their companion, to just sell as soon as they're useless? I really don't understand people that do that.
Haha, I love all the general work to be done around horses as well. I clean hooves and tack as therapy, it calms me right down. XD (Don't really like stall cleaning, the wheelbarrow here hates me. >w> )
Congrats on the turn-success, and good luck learning more tricks. :3

LOL i've been coming on this site for ages on and off too, yeah since 2005 as well I think! I've not posted much considering... i just like reading :) And its good to just chat about stuff without trawling through the crappy squabbles and bullying that used to go on, god that got so boring (never happened on the horse forum though lol). It seems to have stopped now, maybe cos there's no one here lol
wow awesome pics Marce! Were you worried about her treading on you lol (tommy would and he's got feet like buckets :)) And interesting angles on the middle one lol! The one at the bottom looks like you're going really fast!
Money money money... what a pain! i could probably just about afford my own horse now but it would be a squeeze and its not much fun when you're skint is it? I'm happy with tommy t. His owner is pretty controlling but she's nice enough with it - you're right bruises its for a good reason, so I just need to try to just do as i'm told :)
Sorry to hear you're not allowed to jump Bruises! I used to love it but haven't jumped for ages, not brave enough lol. Will Fancy jump, Marce?
So have you guys been riding this week? I rode 3 times, twice out h a c king and once in the school, he was really good!
Tommy really made me laugh the other day, I was leading him across the field and suddenly he leapt out of his skin - pulled the rope clean out of my hands! I couldn't understand what he was scared of until i saw someone leading a pony into the field that was wearing one of those muzzle things that stop them eating too much, and that's what was freaking him out! He's a loony tune!
Everyone else has gone to bed at my house, I'm just watcing there's something about mary, so funny not seen it for ages, its got stamford in it from sex and the city lol. TV keeps cutting out tho. Grrrr.
Have a great weekend :)

Nope, I trust her. She actually wasn't moving her front right foot at all because it was near my head. She had it cocked all funny. She's such a cutie. She is at the point now where I can do anything to her. I can crawl under her belly and sit under there and rub her belly. I'll have to take some more pics. I can gallop with my arms in the air and reins under my leg, I can ride backwards, pretty much anything. For the middle picture I was actually lying on my stomach right behind her back legs. It's an ants eye view, haha.
We were actually just walking in the one at the bottom! Maybe because my friends horse was moving as she was trying to take the picture!
Yeah I agree about the stupid crap that goes on on this site. I mainly got tired of reading OVER AND OVER about the same damn people getting animals, giving them away, and then getting more! I work at an animal shelter so I see that enough!! Speaking of, we got two new horses Thursday. A cute little quarter horse cross and a painted draft!!! They need to gain some weight before we get on them though.
I rode a few times this week. I'm going to go riding tomorrow too. With Bailey of course!! You guys need to take some more pics too!!!
That's funny about Tommy spooking. Sometimes they spook at the silliest things!! And all you can do is laugh!! haha.

I know just how you feel. I work with horses (when I'm in the country) at a camp where we give trail rides and some beginner/intermediate lessons, mainly Western.

This is Baxter (and me). He's a 6/7 year old pinto gelding, and the equine love of my life. He came to our herd last year rather spooky, but willing to trust a calm rider. He isn't afraid to lead a trail, but sometimes the far end of the riding arena holds unspeakable horrors. Like weird-looking pieces of mulch on the ground. He has the most beautiful canter... Sigh...
One day when I'm rich, I will buy Baxter and we'll ride off into the sunset together.
LoneStar
05-18-09, 01:54 PM 05-18-09
Oooh he's lovely, good luck finding the money, and welcome!!!
Ha ha thats so funny about the mulch, yep T will spook at unusual looking piles of dreid grass on the floor, but won't bat an eyelid at a massive tractor or motorbike... weirdo! I find that one thing horses are scared of is paper, my god I dread seeing a paper bag go flapping across the road in the wind when I'm out riding!
Aw i just love the sound of Fancy, my old pony Princess was like her - you could just do what you wanted and she didn't care... sit between her legs, lie down on her back, we used to ride doubles on her, go over little jumps facing the wrong way, vault on her bareback - she had seen it, all done it all... but in typical horse fashion was totally irrational and had a terrible fear of plastic bags, right up to the age of 30 odd - black bin liners were actually scary horse eating monsters!
If I tried any of that stuff on Tom he'd have a fit! I sometimes forget who I'm riding and sort of plod along in a daydream with a loose rein - then suddenly a bird will fly in front of him and he's shooting off across the field with me flopping about like a sack of spuds trying to get hold of him lol!

Welllll, I finally have something to add here...
My uncle's horse had a foal! It was really random and out of the blue, what happened was my uncle's neighbor's stallion broke out and got into my uncle's mare's pen....my uncle THOUGHT his pinto was pregnant since the stallion had been with her, but when I went out to NY to visit a few months ago I swore his throughbred cross was pregnant, but he said it wasn't possible....welllll, a week ago this little creature popped out!

Although, I'm really worried about momma...does she look thin to you guys? XO TBH, my uncle really isn't the pet owner of the year, so I'm worried about the colt...I know he won't train him to be ridden or even basic things like grooming, and I'm to far away to be doing it....My uncle said I can have him, but I have no effing money for it! My mom just got layed off though and she's thinking about moving to West Virginia and buying a little farm...so, maybe in 6 months it may be a possibilty, although I dread training a 6 month old colt how to pick up his hooves and letting him be touched and such...oh joy!

Aleandra - I'm not an expert in horse births, but the mother does look rather thin to me. I have a friend who's going to school to become a breeder/horse vet/etc. and in her pictures the mothers always look fatter than that.
SweetlilMarce - Thanks! I've learned a bit of English too. I'm not very good, though! I was in Thailand a couple of months ago and rode a horse on the beach English... It was not entirely successful!
We have a handful of "staff" horses, and he's one of them (due to occasional freak-outs and the fact that he gets bored easily), and usually the one I ride.

Marce, aw, she's really very pretty. And that's awesome you've come so far and have so much trust. Heh, I only wish I can trust my Psycho like that some day. XD
Painted draft! Aww! They have a special place in my little black heart. D: I'm really not one to ask, but, pictures? D:
And I know what you mean about rehoming animals and then getting more. D; Yeah. D; That's the happenings on this site frustrating me the most. D;
Lonestar, money is a real pain indeed. Boo on it. *pokes money concerns with a stick*
Haha, I lovelovelove jumping too much. XD People around here keep having -issues- if they catch me doing it, so, um, now I've started going out on trails or to the far away pastures or fields with Sleipner or one of the other trustworthy horses I ride, and do jumping out there. *can not behave*
I've been riding every day this week. Supposed to take a break today, but, we'll see. Depends on if there's enough other work for me to do, I don't like feeling useless. XD
Haha, aw, spooky horses. They often spook over the smallest and most unexpected things, it seems. D: ...but especially plastic and paper bags, yeah, heh.
Indig0, yay, the more the merrier. :3 Baxter is so handsome. D: *pets him*

I have been spending a lot of time on horseforum.com. They are a wonderful community of horse lovers from all across the world.. It is very active, and the people are respectful and knowledgeable. I Have pics up there of my beauties.
Do tell me if you join that community, as I have a diffeent SN there, and I'll be sure to greet you. Not to mention the carrot game is very addictive.

If you have never handled a foal, I urge you to be cautious. Foals are unpredictable and can be very dangerous despite their diminuitive size.
Unhandled foals are not much fun. Though I will admit they are much more fun than over handled/mishandled foals.

Not crazy. Horses are made crazy, not born. Being mishandled, or handled by someone who doesn't have the training to deal with them has ruined many a good horse. If you would like some tips on how to work with him, please visit the forum I mentioned.

I will also be visiting the forum, because (I know have said this before) I think I may be getting a horse. =D We are moving out to the country, and although we have to rent first so my mom can get a job down there before we buy, the lady we're thinking of renting from (who is our number 1 choice) has a HUGE horse property and she said she can't have a horse ATM, but she really just wants to see a horse in the morning so I could my pick of any of the pens, and he/she could roam this larger area outside of the pens. There's also a corral I could work with him/her in.
So, I'm looking for a "bombproof" horse, one that's done basically everything, not to old, maybe 10-15. My ideal horse would be a QH/TB cross, but I'll take whatever comes my way. =] Although, I do believe I am to tall and heavy (I'm not fat, but because I am tall, I weigh more than a petite person would obviously) for a QH, but I am not nearly experienced enough to handle a large TB should the horse spook for some reason.
I'm going back to my old riding school to take another coarse of lessons and brush up on my riding (well, english riding anyways). And than maybe I'll do some trail rides (my friend knows the owner so we're allowed to go without guides) and brush up on my western riding.
What is better for casually riding? I would imagine western? Honestly, if I do get a horse it'll just be for pleasure, I can't afford to do tons of lessons or shows or anything like that.
But yeah, my exciting little news. =]

Another random update...
I found a horse. =D His name's Tigger, he's a 16 y/o gelding chestnut QH. He's a supposed "easy beginner" horse and is learning to go on trails now after having been a children's jumper. I think he's just perfect, and I'm going to go meet him when I come back from vacation.
My only concern is I dunno if I'll be able to fit on him. XD
