Hello Everyone,
I was just wondering about your opinions on riding while listening to an iPod or MP3 player. It's not riding on the road or trials only in the arena. I know that it can be unsafe on a trail or a road because you can't really hear anything around you.
On one side: listening to music can be uplifting and motivational considering that your headphones don't fall out and that your player is safely secured
On the other side: if it drops, it might be crushed by the horse or spook it. Also, if you fall, it might do damage to you.
I really don't know if it would be a wise decision or not. I'm only going to be in the arena and I would have my iPod secured of course.. I just really don't know if it's a good idea or not. Please help! Thank you and God Bless! :)

There were no ipods or mp3 players when i used to ride. We used to take our whole stereo *L* Then when small cassette tape players came out we switched to them.
Would i ride with a modern ipod etc, no probs at all!

Haha that's what one of my trainers used to do. She said that she had no problem with me listening to music while I rode I just wanted someone to confirm that it would be alright and not extremely hazardous.. Then again, riding is pretty darn hazardous in itself haha!

Hi there,
i think its fine as long as you're in a safe place although i wouldn't have it on too loud in case anyone needs to get your attention! Personally i would find it really annoyong to ride with my ipod on cos I've never found a set of headphones yet that will stay in my ears .. they must be a weird shape lol!
We've got a radio in our riding arena but I don't use it, I prefer it to be quiet.
Alasse are you an 80's child like me? Yes i remember carting my walkman around with a wide selection of different tapes... usually compilation tapes I'd made myself - mostly of my fave guns n roses and bon jovi songs :)

I myself have trouble focusing on other things when listening to mp3-players, so I'd personally only do it when I'd be more or less just sitting on the horse anyway. XD When having to think about training and such and in the mood for music, I use the radio we have in our arena. But I know some here use mp3-players when doing everything from dressage to jumping (really really wouldn't recommend it for jumping though >w> ). They tend to just have one earplug in at the time though, so you can still catch their attention if needed.
As a sidenote, yay for Guns n Roses and Bon Jovi. XD

Well you can but sometimes you need to hear the horse.
Thats what I would have thought but... maybe i'm wrong.
I suppose if everyone else says it's ok.
but isn't really dangerous?
