Hey,

It was nice to see someone who has an interest in Angelfish besides myself, first of all are the Angelfish your talking about, are they fresh/salt water or are they Salt water? If your trying to keep fresh/salt water, I can help. I have two Angels one is a Gold Angel and the other is a Zebra (has stripes) they are both 3 1/2 inches in size. Angelfish are very territorial first of all, but their upkeep is fairly easy. They are really not too hard to please. When buying a Angelfish you want to make sure you have a big enough tank. You should start out with twenty gallon tank. Angelfish love depth in their water, but if you don't have a twenty gallon tank. You can start off with a ten gallon but only one to two Angels. They grow and get pretty big, anywhere from 6-7 inches. The bigger their tank , the bigger they grow. I have two Angelfish in a thirty gallon with one Pleco (algae eater) You should have one of those. They are compatible with Angels. They help keep the aquariums biological system flowing smoothly , they feed off the algae. They are ugly little things but very sufficient. You don't want to overcrowd your tank ever. Another thing is when you get them don't get one little and one big because the big one will surely stress out the little one. You should get them both or however many equal to each size. They are very nice to watch. I love them especially. If you breed them they will take care of their young together, but you must separate them from other fish in the tank. The father is very protective of his young and will kill other fish over them. Well I hope this will help you out to start with. If you have anymore questions, just post, I'm in here all the time.

We had a tank of mostly goldfish and added what we were told was an angelfish (I'm not positive, since I was a little kid...I was also told that angelfish were the same thing as bettas/japanese fighting fish so...) Anyway, whatever the fish was, it proceeded to eat all of the other fish, including this giant goldfish...would that be an angelfish or a betta?

I want to get Angelfish sometime in the near future as well. I dont know TOO much about them. However, I do know that they do not go well with Tiger barbs. I used to have a tiger barb and when I went to buy an angelfish from the petstore they told me I couldnt get one because the tiger barb will eat the Angels fins (despite the 1/2" size of my tiger barb). Now that the Tiger barb is gone (VANISHED FROM MY TANK!!!) I am considering getting an Angel.

I also have one question for you guys (if you can help) is it best to get angels in groups or is it OK to just have one in a community tank. I have a shark, an algea eater, frog, clown loach, a few neons, and other random fish that I dont know of off hand. Also I only have a 10 gallon. Do you think its safe to add an angel to my community tank?

Hi,

I have a 29 Gallon with the following fish:

1 - Angelfish
4 - Tiger Barbs
2 - Bala Sharks
1 - Algae Eater

All of the fish get along just fine with each other. No problems with the Angel and the Barbs in the same tank. Every once in awhile the Angel will make a half-hearted attempt to start chasing one of the other fish but only goes a couple inches and gives up. This happens maybe once per week, no biggie.

Angels are a great fish to have, and mine always changes colors when I come near the tank. (I am hoping this is because he likes me).

Wow that's surprising!!!! Usuall tiger barbs eat the angelfish fins. I waited until my barb died until I got my angelfish. The angelfish are actually very new. I just got them two days ago. Good to hear that your angelfish are getting along well with the barbs! Your lucky.

Not all Barbs will nip fins, but most of them do.

Your Angelfish may actually like you because they might associate you with food. My Green Kissing Fish goes to a part of the tank closest to me when I pass by or when I walk up to the aquarium. He does this because he wants me to feed him.
