hi all,
this is nothing serious really, but just curious as to why this happens.
she's now around 20 months old and and is neutered (people say she's a sheltie mix, but not sure, you can see photos of her in the 'introduce.... forum'). basically, everytime this one friend comes and visits (he's known her most of her life), she pees...no matter where she is, she just lets go as well as being excited. The weird thing is, she only does it to this one friend, everyone else that comes around, etc....nothing like this happens. Is there an explanation for this or this just totally weird?
Thanks.

hahaha, yes, we've been teasing my friend about this ever since. everytime it seems like she's scared of him at first, then, she cuddles up to him after she finishes peeing. if this isn't love, dunno what it is!
i find it rather funny, but a bit annoying when she releases inside the house!! so everrytime my mate comes round, i let her out of the house for her to greet him.
thanks.

HI Ken!
I don't know if this is considered excitement urination, or submissive urination. I have a male dog, Kahlua, who pees when new people come over and acknowledge him, you know, bend down and say "Hi" right away, He will pee and run around. It doesn't usually happen when one of us comes home. So, the vet told me to have all guests ignore him, as mean as it sounds. It worked to some degree, but she said if it persisted, and we knew that guests were coming over, to put him in his crate or baby gate him to an area where he can see, but not get out at that moment. Let him be in there the first 5 min or so, and then let him out and he will have calmed down from all the excitement by then. This has seemed to work, a few "crate time" minutes and ignore for a few and he's better. He just needs to acclimate to everything, ya know? People probably think Im weird by shouting "Ignore Kahlua" but I know what I'm doing! lol. Also, if you know a guest is coming over, take your doggie out to potty first, too.
I have another dog, a girl named Penny. She has a thing with submissive urination. She had it since she was a pup, it sometimes they don't grow out of it, sometimes they do. Does she ever flip over and pee? My dog Penny will do that. It started at our apt, she was too scared to go down the stairs,( my other 2 would bolt out the door and go down the stairs to the grass, and she wanted to follow them, but got too nervous) and when we went to pick her up, she would pee a little, sometimes flip over, sometimes not. She also can be very shy. I have learned to let her come to me. And if she does pee, not to yell at her and make her more scared. I kind of just try to ignore this. I praise her when I bend down and pet her and she doesn't do it. I tell my guests to let her come to them on her terms and she'll be ok. I take her out potty before any one new comes as well.
Hope I could give a little insight. I wonder why she acts like that with your one friend? She sounds precious, I'll have to go check out her picture! :angel6:
I found a link for you to check out on both types of urination.

Hi Jackie,
Thanks a lot for the information, I will definitely try your suggestions out.
Minimi is usually a very outgoing, and loving dog, she is usually not afraid of new or old visitors. It's only with this one particular friend that it happens. When she's really excited in general, she is fine, she just runs around in circles and runs up and down the sofa, etc. as you can imagine, she is a very nimble little dog.
Maybe she is submissive to this particular friend, even though she likes to cuddle up to him too.
The thing i find amzing is that she somehow knows who's boss and who's not. For instance, she would be willing to listen me, but she will not listen to my mom or my sister. My mom tells me what mischeivious things she gets up to when i am at work and doens't listen to her. When I am home she listens and understands my commands, etc. My sister would take her out and would shout at her non-stop before she listens and go to her. With me, I just give out a grunt or a whistle and she comes running straight back to me. The best thing is when I come back from work and she's already downstairs at the door greeting me, she definitely lights up my days.
Anyway, thanks again, i will try your suggestions out and will update on progress.
And yes, you are a total animal lover. how do you find the time and energy? hahahaha

I reckon she just likes him a lot. She's always known him and dogs have people they like more than others and get more excited with those favourite people than with others. It could just be that which is causing her to lose control of her bladder. The fact that she doesn't see him all the time makes her even more excited when she does see him. My dogs get extra excited with my dad because they don't see him that much.
We used to own a Border Collie dog who would roll on his back and pee whenever we went up to give him a fuss or just greet him. He only did it while young and grew out of it.
