Hello. I am 15 years old and I live in right outside of a city. We have a yard that is about 12ft x 4ft in front of our house. This is a bit small, but there are a few parks 15-20 minutes away. The house isn't very small its average sized, with 3 bedrooms.
I live with my 23 year old brother and my father. I also have a cat and 2 rats.
I attend school for about 5-6 hours a day, my dad for about 7 hours. My brother is gone mostly at night when my dad and I are home.
My grandmother also lives 10 minutes away. She has two dogs and a 1/4 acre of land. I could visit with dog often.
Walks would be no problem, could take for long walks 3-4 times a day and short ones throughout the day/night.

My question is, do you think It is an alright time for me to have a dog? I appreciate any advice.

Alison

I guess it is if you think so. If you truly believe you are ready for the responsibility. Just remember, you should also train your dog. It's important that you have an obedient dog. Good luck

About the training, do you recommend training the dog yourself or going to obidience classes (like Petsmart has)? I've read different things about training and I wasn't sure what was best.

Well, I've trained my dogs myself. Though one of my dogs has to attend a training class so he can be socialized though (he's not a bad dog, he knows the basic commands ,he's just not too good with other dogs). Training classes are really good because your dog will get socialized. I guess it's just a matter of time and money( sometimes a bit pricey for the classes, but they are good) I hope I've helped you.
