My hamster is almost two and he's getting older. He is a Black Bear and I want to know (on average) how long they live.(so I can be prepared.) My other hamm is almost brand new and the two gett along very well (never bite.) I don't think this is nomal becase Poeis a Syrian. (Black Bear is also a type of Syrian.) My mom thinks I should put them in the same cage. I say no but she says they will never fight.
Smokey; will be two on Feb. 24th
Poe; will be one on Aug. 15th

Maybe your mom wants to kill your hamsters as they would likely wind up dead or seriously injured if put in the same cage. They WILL fight.
Never put Syrian hamsters together. Never.
By the way, they have BIG TEETH and can cause massive damage on another hamster. This is what happened to me a few days ago with one nice guy, Zeb, who wasn't even angry, gave me a quick nip; he just didn't want to be picked up that day!

And she wants to put them together??
Hamsters live 2-3 years; on rare occasions a little longer. But even younger ones can die unexpectedly, as I discovered once. :( So always be prepared.

Thanks, I think that my mom just doesn't know much about hamms. I'll show her your reply!

Also show her the blood from that little hamster bite when the ham wasn't even mad at me or scared. Imagine what a ham could do if it WAS being aggressive or was angry!
By the way, because it was a quick bite the teeth went in and out fast, and although there was a lot of blood there was little pain.

So what is your point? If it is that your brother is malicious I am convinced.
Assuming those are Syrian hamsters, your brother is not only foolish and reckless, but engaging in potential animal cruelty. :redhot: You should have been very angry with him. You were also extremely lucky no hamsters were injured.
This is Rainy, an older female. One day her daughter, Makeeda, escaped and sneaked into her bin. She is an escape artist, and I am now even more careful. Makeeda put a very nasty ugly gash right between Rainy's eyes; when I first saw her the entire area was swollen and I thought she had lost the eye. Luckily, Rainy is healed and OK now.
You can see the scar in this photo taken a month later:

Never keep Syrians together; it is like playing with a loaded gun.
