Aspen - bad??

I've recently read an article that suggest that aspen may cause health problems in hamsters.

Have any of y'all who use aspen seen any of those signs in your hamsters? I'd be really interested to know...

In the U.K the floor covering is usually soft wood shavings,untreated pine I think it is.I've used it for all my hamsters with no ill effects.But I always use safe paper bedding for nesting.

i think aspen is pretty safe. i use Carefresh i think it is undoubtably the best bedding out there.

how could it b bad? my sisters guinea pig uses it and hes fine. i use white pine though. i heard 'bout a million times that aspen is the best u can buy 4 yer pet. errg...confusion...

Thank you for posting that information. I have always heard positive things about Aspen. I hope it isn't true, because there isn't too many other alternatives.

Carefresh or Carefresh ultra are by far the best things out there. Not only does it cause no ill affects on your animals (can be used with guinea pigs, hamster, mice, rats, birds...you name it) They can dig in and and form little nests, it's soft so they can use it as their bedding too.

I agree dosergirl. Carefresh is the best. Aspen is second. I havent heard of anyone getting these symptoms by using it.

They say it's bad because small pointy peices can get in their eyes.

carefresh is made of wood pulp which is basically paper.
they also sanitize it at 380 degrees to kill all bacteria, mold, and fungus.
