Hi, I have had my hamster for about 2-3 months and as far as I know he wasnt injured...however my son does play with him...but all of the sudden his eyes have turned bright red...and his eyes seem to be bulging a bit...does anyone know if something is wrong with him? Should I be concerned or do hamsters eyes change color as they mature??? Help Please thank you. :wavey:

What kind of hamster is it? I've never heard of a hamsters eyes changing colors...... Maybe you just didn't notice that his eyes were red. Sometimes their eyes may appear to be dark, but really are red or ruby. About the bulge, I would be concerned about that. I would say if it is very bad looking to take him to the vet. Good luck with your hamster.

I agree SapphireWolf. Sometimes its a very dark color red and you cant notice it much. Ive also never heard of a hamsters eyes changing colors. I would take him the vet if your unsure.

Thanks for responding, he doesnt seem to be hurt, his eyes just look big and red, definately different than when we got him,,but maybe thats because he was a baby, I dont know, but he seems to see ok. so I guess I dont have to worry :bouncy:

My hamster has one eye that shows red reflection when you shine a light near him at night the other is black with no "red eye".The vet said the black eye is most probably blind,no blood vessels showing when the light shines in it.It does not bother the hamster as they have very poor vision to begin with, you just have to make sure he knows you are approaching him and not scare him.
