Hello...I was just wondering if there is anyone who could help me. I'm trying to pick out pet insurance and have no idea which one is best for pets like ferrets. Does anyone out there have pet insurance for their ferrets and if so any opinions or suggestions? Last April I went through one of my ferrets having lymphosarcoma and it was terribly costly. I wouldn't be able to go through that again any time soon so insurance is more than just an option for me. I need to get it! So any help and/or advice is greatly needed! Thanks! :flippy:

Your vet should be able to help you with that. There are many forms of insurance available, but not all vets accept them, so dont sign up for anything until you are positive you'll be sticking with your vet, and you know what their office accepts.

Yeah unfortunately right now there is no insurance to cover "exotics" they just cover dogs and cats.

Hi everyone,

Actually, there is health insurance available for ferrets, but the company has recently stopped covering endocrine-related incidences in ferrets. This means that the two big problems in ferrets - adrenal gland disease and insulinoma - are NOT covered. You're better off creating your own savings account with whatever money you would have put into the insurance policy.

I just got off the phone with VPI, www.petinsurance.com and they said they do cover ferrets for illnesses and injury. They also cover renal problems and diabetes as well as diagnostic testing. This is the only company I have found that does that. And ferrets are only $12 a month. So, you should definitely try calling them if you want ferret insurance. I planning on doing that ASAP.

You need to get your fact straight since I called and spoke to a manager and they stated they don't cover Adrenal Surgury and Diabeties.

That's what they told me so if this is incorrect then they have lied to me. I'm just telling you want I was told and I did ask questions about specific issues. So, as far as I know my facts are straight.

No I understand amigo, and I fidn it great for you to inform us concerned pet owners, but I spoke with people in Management and warned them to educate thier Customer Service people in order for wrong info like this to be given to potential customers.

VPI, until 2 years ago, DID cover all of those. They stopped covering Adreanal and Insulinoma, I think, in July 2003. Also, they don't cover anything "routine" at all.....no exams or shots.

I have no doubt they may have given you wrong, or outdated info.......or MAYBE, and this would be great, they decided to start covering those again. That would be nice.
