hi can any one please help me i have got 2 hamsters they are brothers ones a short hair hamster named ares god of war the other is eli i god of peace a teddy bear hamster well eli has been having problems with his nails they wont stop growing i had them cut some months ago now but they have grown long and i got to take him back to the vets and ares has never had any problems with his is there any way to keep them short with out having to keep going to the the vets why do they keep growing is it to do with his breed ?? also eli has got a big wheel in this cage could his cage have to many things in ??

Whoa! Use some punctuation:lol:! Now, yes, there is a way to keep his nails short. You can ask your vet to show you how to cut his nails yourself. And, how big is his cage? If he only has a wheel in it, that's not too many things at all, it should be alright. Hope this helps, goodluck

and as for elis cage its a medium i would say. i like to cut his nails but i am to scared of hurting my baby

I haven't seen a run on sentence such as that since I last read James Joyce's "Ulysses". :aeek2:

I have 14 Syrian hamsters (it was 15 until a few days ago :( ) and none have long nails. It might be a condition with that particular hamster.

Sometimes a rough surface can help, for them to rub the nails on, but not too rough as it may hurt their feet.
The vet should have been able to teach you how to trim nails at home; many people do that.

None of my hamsters have had to get their nail trimmed,are you sure they are really long?Hamsters are meant to have sharp little claws for gripping with,this can feel sharp on your skin if they crawl on you and dig in for purchase.

yes i am sure his nails are too long as they are curling and he gets caught on my clothes even his bedding i should re name him freddy after the from the horror movies lol

wot i heard was good is if u have a ladder then u put some sandpaper the when he runs up and down it they shrink? hope this helps :rolleyes:
