Hey every1! Today my mom and i were talking about when the time come that Maggie goes 2 heaven :bawling: and when the time comes to get another dog. My mom really loves labs, and so do i, but we both feel like it's morally right 2 go to the SPCA to get a dog. Does any1 have arguments for breeders, or for the spca? Thanks!

Purebred Labs and Lab mixes get euthanized daily in my local shelter.

I dont think you'd have a hard time finding a purebreed in a shelter or rescue if you look around, and naturally many came from breeders in the first place..

Check http://www.petfinder.com for a Lab near you.

The way I see it, it does not matter where you get your pets from. If you adopt from a shelter, you're getting a pet someone has given up on or was forced to get rid of, for one reason or another. If you buy from a breeder, you're getting a puppy (or dog) that, should you not buy it, someone else will, and they may end up dumping that dog into a shelter later in life. Buying from a breeder may save a dog from ending up in a shelter later.

I would suggest that you find a breed-specific rescue in your area. Like, in your case, a Labrador Retriever Rescue. These will be mostly purebred dogs, who were rescued from shelters, or taken in from people who did not want them anymore or could not keep them. You can find a purebred Lab, even a young one. Even puppies go homeless...

Well I am all for the SPCA. We have adopted 2 dogs from there and they are the best dogs we could have asked for. We got our first one Sadie when she was 11 months old. That was her second time being there. She was dropped off as a small abandoned pup, was adopted and then brought back after she chewed some boots. That's the story we were told. She is an awesome dog and is very very loving. We thought she needed a pal so she wouldn't be alone when we had to be at work. We went back a few months later and got a second dog. She was standing on top of the doghouse in the pen, barking like crazy. I have always had a thing about not wanting a barking dog, but my husband said we should take her for a walk. She was a totally different girl outside of the pen. We had brought Sadie with us so we went and got her and introduced them. It was like they had known each other forever. Instant friends, it was really heartwarming to see. So anyway, we have had very good luck with the SPCA and so many animals need good homes. There wasn't really a valid reason why our second dog, Lady was brought there. I guess the owner just didn't have the time for her. It is very importand though to take them for a walk outside of the pen as there are so many reasons why they are stressed and not themselves with so many other dogs barking and such. They have to have a chance at one on one. I hope this helps your decision. We wouldn't hesitate to go there again when the time comes for one more! Good Luck! Anilove

I am All For the rescue. Weather from the SPCA or other rescue organization. I have many animals that are rescues and they make very good pets. I got my Great Dane from SPCA 9 yrs. ago. and I just got a pot bellied pig from there. They are both sweet, loveing animals that are very happy to have a warm, happy home with me. Go for it. If you feel it is the best thing. I agree with you.

Hey guys! Thank u all! u've all bought up great points and i apperciate it! I told my mom about it all, and we're going to check the spca & rescues, and if we find a sweet pooch (which we most likley will) we'll take it home, but if not, we'll go 2 a breeder. Thsnk u everyone!
