You have to tell us more!
Hamsters have a slightly higher body temperature than we do.
Any other symptoms?? Any discharge from the eyes, or serious diarrhea? Any labored or noisy breathing (with wheezing or clicking sounds)? Sunken eyes? Lethargic? Won't eat, drink, or forage for food? Those symptoms could be serious.
You may wish to read on this site or others basic hamster health and care information. You can find it here, or just do a simple web search.
Best to your hamster.

I'm so glad to hear that your hamster is okay. My hamster Bacon felt hot one night, and I had planned to take him to the vet soon. Unfortunately, he died the next day. However, this was due to the location I had bought him at, which was Petsmart. Incase any of you have not read before: DO NOT GET ANY SMALL ANIMALS FROM PETSMART! They treat their small animals horribly, and many of them are prone to diseases, such as wet tail. I have been in this situation before, and have lost two wonderfully sweet hamsters because of Petsmart. Please pass on this message to anyone you know that might be considering a small animal perchase!

I got Poe from petsmart and he's the best! Some times hamsters can be used to that and be nicer. Did that make any sence?

Still, hamsters shouldn't have to be "used to that." The way they treat their small animals is uncalled for, and something should be done about it.

I agree with you on that. Once I bought a hamster from them and it was really mean. Whenever I would hold it, or try to hold it, I would get bitten. It wasn't like I was mistreating it or anything, I was being nice to it. So I just took the hamster back and got another one from PetCo. wich was very nice and lived for a long time. He was the best hamster I have had so far.

Glad the hot hammy is fine.
As for Petsmart. . . complain to the store managers, their district managers, and the corporate offices. I got a lot done doing that about the pet chain here in the NYC area, Petland Discounts.
If that fails, complain to Humane societies, animal welfare groups, and take photos of bad conditions and contact also news media and your legislators as stronger laws may be needed. Bad publicity is also not wanted by the stores.

I don't know if this store is in your area, but Pet Supermarket treats their hamster HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I Smokey there and he almost never bites, but when he bites, OUCH! He bites hard!!!!!!!!!! :elf:
Petsmart treats their Syrians bad. My Poe was in a cage with another hamster (Syrian) and he had a lot of bite marks on him.
I think they treat their Dwarfs well. I saw some and they looked soooooo HAPPY!

I may have to agree with you on the PetsMart thing...I'm not sure if they treat their animals bad, because I haven't seen any of that, but my hamster (stormy) died only months after I bought him from their. But I'm not sure how old he was so I can't really justify that. As for PetCo, I think they are really good with their animals. I got my frst hamster (snickers) there, and he would've lived longer than he did, but my dog attacked him twice, and he was an exceptional hamster! And so again, I bought another hamster from Petco (Snoopy) and she seems quite alright too, but I've only had her for about 2 months. I'm not sure if this pet store is in other areas, but Pet Ranch is AWFUL! Not just to the small animals, but to the dogs that they have too! A dogs head was bent all the way back while he was lying down, so that his head touched his back, and that just is not normal. They are also quite dehydrated, and the rats/hamsters are quite crowded in their cages.

I've only bought 1 hamster from Petsmart. She died within a month. Never again.
I brought a hamster back to Petco today. He died today, almost a week after I bought him, from wet tail. They were nice about it, checked out Bright Eyes (who had shared his cage) for it, and gave me a new hamster. Bright Eyes is OK, except he's still not happy with me for taking him out of his warm bed and putting him in a box.
The new hamster is a lovely little female, who looks almost exactly like Bright Eyes. She's VERY lively :) On the car ride home, she managed to chew a good-sized hole in the carry box, and was poking her head out :)
