Ireally want a hedgehog bad but can you actually cuddle with them. Iheard somewhere that the spikes are soft and bristly until they feel threatend, then they make the spikes hard is this true. And also I have two ferrets dose anybody know if the two species would get along?

Ferrets actually would hunt a hedgie. So they need to be very closely supervised if you ever decided to have them meet. It is probably a better idea to just keep them apart. Also the spines do hurt when they ball up to protect themselves, but my little hedgie that I had used to do it and I would hold him in my hands. It is really not that bad unless he tries to head butt you with his spines...that really hurts!

When a hedgehog feels threatened his spines becomes stiff and they may hurt a little if your get poked. But when the spines are down they are not pokey at all, it feels almost like petting a toothbrush....

they are really fun to cuddle with. once they learn your smell they won't feel threatned and they will be open all the time.
