guinea pig died

I would like to know the reason why my 1.5 year old guinea pig died. When I found her in the cage, she had an inflated stomach. We had regular pine shavings. She has had no offspring or intercourse. I need some help.

sorry to hear about your piggies death, it sounds very much like bloat, sometimes this can happen by eatting a food that has some nasty germs on it (don't blame yourself for this, its no different to you eatting something someone has cooked and you getting belly ache, because of some germ or other). some piggies are more supseptable to some germs than others and if the germs get a hold, cause bloat, sometimes bad diarrohea. germs like aflatoxicosis which can be found in hay that is mouldy, even a bit that you or i might not notice, can cause abdominal bloat and sudden death. if you got a new bag of food for her it might have been a bit of food that was bad. something like stress that could be caused by a fright by a loud noise, if it lived outside fright from say a cat trying ot get at it. can cause bloating and death. a number of things can cause bloat, and saddly bloat is not that easy to treat, hope this is of some help to you, i know it won't bring her back, but at least you can hopefully understand a bit better why she died and it was Not your fault anyway. so don't blame yourself, cause it can happen to anyone, you can't prtect against every germ or virus, most are not harmfull, but an odd one is.

I am so very sorry to hear about the loss of your precious piggie. They bring so much joy to us when they are with us and so much saddness when they cross the rainbow bridge. It will take a long time to stop feeling the sadness you have now, but try to picture all the great and funny things your pet did while you had it with you. The reason she passed away is not as important as the reason she was born. She was born to be given all the special love that only you could provide for her. I can tell that by your letter that you loved her and miss very much and that your love was returned to you by your piggie many times over. I bid you peace at this time. Karyn
