Hi, why does my 3 and a half week old kitten shiver and shake.......

My three and a half old kitten Sam shivers and shakes during and after I feed him his kitten formula with a seringe. The vet prescribed this formula and the seringe. I think it's called KMIL. We have a wild cat in our area and she is a horrible mother. I know that her last litter of kittens died because we havnt seen any of them. I would've saved them had I been able to get to them. They were under a huge pile of rubbish in a dump. I think that kittens died from the extreme heat. Anyways, this time around she had another litter of kittens and my dog Ginger found one of them. She's very sweet and loves kittens but she just doesnt know how fragile they are. I'm not sure but she might of been the one who took a chunk outta his hindquarters if maybe it was a spider bite that got really serious. Nevertheless, since then we took him to the vet and she gave us kitten formula and everything. I feed him every 4 hours and I usually give him about 12 cc's. Can you please tell me why my kitten shakes like it's cold after and during feeding? Thanks alot!!!! :agree: :angel2: :apart:

he's probably cold. make sure u keep him warm. he's very young and needs to be held and cuddled to keep his body temp up. also make sure the formula isn't very cold that can do it to him also. it has to be about as warm as u would heat a bottle for a baby. i have taken in 2 kittens about 3 weeks ago and they were 3 weeks old. they would do that too because after they eat they get tired and like a person there body temps drop. so just keep him warm.

Kittens do not have a shiver reflex. They must be kept at around 98 degrees Farenheit. Make sure that kittens is on a towel on a heating pad.

I would call the vet about the shaking. It may be a low sugar response or something. What color are the gums on the kitten and are their any fleas?

Make sure you are stimulating the kitten to go potty. You have to stroke them (tummy or back or genatils or something) to get them to pee/poo. They can't do that on their own until some certain age.
