What fish will go good with one Angel fish???

Hi,
ok so i've got some ideas from people and i've decided to get one Angel for a 45gallon tank. I know for sure that, that tank is to big for one fish. so to solve that problem i need some wonderful and nice people to help me find some fish that will like to be with the one Angel fish. I would like to have playful fish so i can push my face into the glass of my aquarium 24hours a day. Well maybe not that long, but u know what i mean!!!! I also like colorful fish. for example: rainbow sharks, swordtails, platies and so on and so forth. thanks for reading and plz help me soon!!!

You can't go wrong with platies. They are loaded with color, and what's good about those is the males & females are equally colorful, so you can have really nice, bright splashes of color all over the tank.

You can have 1 rainbow shark. They don't really like fish of their own kind too much so it's not recommended that you add more than that, but your tank is definitely suitable for one. You've got lots of water volume and swimming room for when they feel like darting around.

Swordtails are similar to platies, and tend to be more aggressive, so you may want to pick one species (platies vs. swords) over the other.

Serpae tetras are a good choice becuase they're kind of testy like the angel, and the rainbow shark, so a school of these would definitely fit right in.

Rummynose tetras are white/red/black so they'd be a good color contrast with the platies and the angel, and they school tightly, so if you like that kind of display, they would be another nice choice.

A really pretty fish that you might like is the Dwarf Australian Rainbow. These are a lovely blue shimmery color, and the males have orange fins and the females have yellow fins. They don't photograph well at all, so pictures don't do them justice, but they would be GORGEOUS with that angel! They're a really "classic" looking fish that will never go out of style. They're not cheap, though, but that's actually a good thing because it means you'll have something different that a lot of other people won't.

Hi calichick,

We have a very stable 55 gallon tank with angels as the centerpiece. Let me give you a list of everything else in the tank--none of them have been problematic.

1 stick fish
1 pleco
4 oticinclus
1 albino corydoras
1 emerald corydoras
1 male molly
3 silver dollar (they live with angels in the wild)
2 zebra danio
1 red minor tetra
2 rosy barb
1 dwarf frog (make sure you get the kind that won't get big)
1 painted glass fish (no flames please, I didn't know when I bought him 10 months ago)
1 dwarf gourami

We've found that having 8 varieties of catfish in the tank gives us a very efficient cleanup crew.

Good luck!

so, so far i have

1 Angel fish
Dwarf Neon Rainbow Fish ( don't know how many?)
Platies ( don't know how many?)
Rummynoses tetras ( don't know how many?)
1 Rainbow shark

I need a good clean up fish that will eat the algae. I heard that the algae eaters get big and suck on other fish. How many fish should i get of each kind? Do the Sharks do anything? to clean up i mean.:agree:

These stocking ideas sound GREAT!

Platies make lots of waste, so you'll probably want to limit those to no more than 5. Ideally, I'd say only 3 (all females, or 1 male & 2 females), but 5 would be OK.

As for the dwarf rainbows, again you want an odd number, 3 or 5. If you go with 3 of these, then get 5 of the platies. You know what I mean? That way you don't have the same numbers of everything. Decide which you like most and go from there.

Rummies... these guys do their very best in a school. The more the better. I'd go with something like 11 or 13.

If I were stocking this tank it would contain:

1 angel
3 platies
5 Aussies
11 rummies
1 red tailed shark (hee hee---I just like them more than the rainbows)
3 or 4 otocinclus (small algae eaters)

The shark will eat leftover food, and eliminate your need for bottom feeders.

You won't need any algae eaters for awhile. Feeding the fish only once every 3 or 4 days will help cut down on the amount of waste they produce, plus they go LOOK for things to eat in the tank which helps YOU keep it cleaner. Plus, it helps keep algae to a minimum.

Make sure whatever food you feed does NOT contain any phosphates. Phosphates will cause algae. There are plenty of brands available that don't contain phosphates. I don't want to recommend a brand because it's all about personal preference.

You might want to keep some sinking shrimp pellets on hand, and feed those every now and then. The rainbow shark will like them, and the otocinclus will not only like them, they will need them if you don't have any algae for them.

It's best if you don't buy any otos until you have an algae problem. And they only grow to about 1.5", so they stay nice & small, and they will not harm any fish in the tank. Plus they're as cute as they can be.
