amazon swords? fish? What do they look like? Are they small enough to fit in a 10gallon? The name sounds cool

Amazon swords are a type of plant. They're not ridiculously exciting- just small bunches of long grass-like leaves.
But they're cheap, and can look really good in a tank.

Amazon swords are definately a favorite of mine.

But they get much much too large for a 10 gallon. they are getting too big for my 55. All swords are heavy root feeders.

What kind of lighting do you have on the tank? and how much of it? regular stock bulbs that come with the light fixture are white light and not of the right spectrum, they arent going to help plants much at all. what kind of substrate do you have?
at walmart you can also buy aponogeton bulbs, most aquatic plants with a bulb dont need much light since most of their nuitrients come from the bulb. these are a good beginner plant. as someone aready said, anubias, javafern, and java moss are all easy to grow, low tech, low light plants. in fact each uses a rhizome to attach themselves onto things like driftwood, so you wont need a very good substrate for those. you wont need any co2 injection until you start getting up into the 4 wpg range. Cryptocoryne wendtii is another low light plant. this doesnt mean no light, you will need a better light on your tank, or at least one of the right spectrum.

not sure of the exact lighting for either of my tanks. The 10gal is your typical lighting for a fish aquarium, I suppose. In it, I have the horntail and the one I can't remember the name of(if I saw a pic of it I'd probably remember). More of the other unnamed plant is in the 2gallon frog tank, which is a little darker lighting. Both tanks have aquarium gravel substrate.
