First, some information about Google, my fat tailed Gecko, and his environment.
-Male -8/+ years old -10 gallon tank with hide spot, and water-bowl big enough for him to fit in -70-80 degrees, under tank heater - I spray the tank, and change his water daily. -He usually eats 3-5 crickets daily, and the crickets are coated with powder once a week. -He has a white day light ( one of the lights that are supposed to give him vitamin D ) and a red heat lamp at night, if needed. If I'm doing something wrong with him, please tell me. So, the problem is, Google hasn't been eating regularly for the past month. I'm pretty sure its because he's also been having trouble shedding. When he sheds, the skin around his eyes, and mouth sticks on. When this happens he doesn't open his eyes or only opens one eye, and therefore, can't really eat. At best, he's only been eating 3 crickets a week. Someone online suggested that when this happens, I should soak him in warm water. I tried this, and used a q-tip to gently get the skin off of his eyes. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I soaked him last night, and he's got his eyes open right now, so he ate 5 crickets, but I don't know how long it will last. Please help me. I feel like I'm just sitting here, letting him get skinnier and skinnier. |

Sorry I missed this!
My speciality is leo's, but aren't fat-tailed geckos very similar? If so, there is no need to spray down the tank, aren't fat-tailed geckos desert creatures? What point would it make in spraying the tank down? You should be giving powdered crickets at least 3xs a week. What substrate do you have?

Re: Fat-Tailed Gecko, not eating.
I'm having a similar problem.. I brought Mork and Mindy (my two african fat tails) home from the pet store on monday... its now wednesday and they won't eat, I haven't seen them drink any water... they poop but thats about it... the tank heater is pointless but the heat lamp makes the tank hot enough for them... I'm not sure what to do to get them to eat... they just lay under their log and i'm just really worried. any suggestions on how to get them to eat?
