Hey guys, I have a few questions about piggys. I've done some research but can't find the answers to some of these questions (and some I just want my answers confirmed).
- I'm looking for a smallish pig, one that could comfortably live indoors (playtime outsidei n the summer though, of course). I can't seem to get proper information on the different breeds of pigs, their sizes, etc. Are there any breeds that are smaller that PBP but still have good temperments? - Should pigs have free range of the house or a large bedroom? - How much time should you spend with your pig each day? I'm in Jr.High and want to make sure I'd have the time - How affectionate are pigs? Thanks very much for the help

You would probably get a faster reply on a different web site. This particular forum seems to be the slowest.
Good luck with a pig.

First of all the so called "mini potbellied pigs" are just regular potbellied pigs. they breed the smaller ones with each other to make them somewhat smaller, but most of them just under feed them so they don't get big. A potbellied pig can weigh anywhere from around 60 to 100 or so lbs. I had one that stayed around 60 lbs, but some can get as high at 150 lbs. You just never know for sure till it grows up. You also have to feed it the right food and the right amount. They are not supposed to be really fat and overweight. If the belly touches the ground its too fat.
The pig should have free run of the house, or if kept in one room then given lots of playtime out of that room. They need to stretch and run and have fun. They can be very sweet and loving. They are VERY smart animals! They are usually littertrained within a day or two. You also have to be careful not to inadvertantly train them to do things you dont want them too. (like dont feed them treats to make them be quiet or they learn to squeal for treats). If you can properly care for a potbellied pig they make great pets. Just remember that their is always a chance it will get close to 100 lbs and make sure to feed it potbellied pig food and go easy on the treats. They are not supposed to be really fat and overweight. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. I will do my best to help you.

Re: Pot Bellies and other Miniature Pigs
go to google and type in "potbelly pig forum" you'll probably find lots of helpful forums that aren't as dead as this one haha. Good luck!
