Refurbishing cage

I recently picked up a large, but slightly used, bird cage for my Gliders. It is showing a slight bit of rust though and I was thinking of refurbishing it. I have access to a galvanized spray paint that I was going to use to paint it. I was unsure if this would be ok or not though. I of course will let the paint fully dry, and air for several days.
I was then going to coat the bars of the cage with a product I seen at a pet store, it's supposed to make cleaning easier by keeping feces and urine from sticking to the bars, don't remember the product name though, doh.
I'am interested in getting any RATIONAL and helpful suggestions/tips/info on this matter.

Thanks,
Podunk

Sounds fine to me.

My only concern is that you need to remove the rust before you paint over it, as the rust can easily dislodge from the bars taking the fresh paint with it. File it, sand it or use a rust remover. Good luck.

Thanks for the input. I do plan on sanding the cage and cleaning it before I paint it. Thanks again.

I've done that many times, I've seen people throwing away perfecting good bird cages/ferret cages. Seomtimes they are perfectly fine, sometimes they need a new paint job. I always pick them up for a friend in Texas that has a sugar glider rescue, she is always in need of cages. I've never had any problems, I just make sure all the rust is gone before repainting, and make sure it's sealed good, so nothing chips off. The stuff you saw at the pet store, did you get the name?
