Sugar Gliders in Utah
Hello,
I recently moved to Utah and was thinking about getting a Sugar Glider. I know they take lots of care and love. I have read just about everything you would ever need to know about them. I was wondering if they are illegal here. I wouldn't think they would since they probably couldn't live in this climate. I am also going to need to find a vet that would be able to examine them(I would be planning on getting at least 2). Also, when I told my friends about this desire to get Sugar Gliders, they told me that they shouldn't be kept as pets since they need room to glide. I don't know whether to think they are right or know they are wrong. If anyone could give me better reassurence about this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Alex |

Laws in Utah
I found out the laws in Utah and they are very strict. Here is the website that will tell you the laws for pretty much any state. http://www.angelfire.com/nb/sugarglider/stateres.html

I dont know about the laws in Utah, but as far as Sugar gliders as pets, it is FINE to keep them as pets. Yes, they do need out of the cage excercise., but just do something like I did. I went out and got manzanita branches (dont know if manzanita is indiginous to Utah) and hung them all over the ceiling in my bathroom at different heights and levels. I take out my gliders once a day and let them go in there. There arnt any dangers in there really. There isnt a shower in my hall bath, just a tub, and I put a blanket down in there. Then I turn out the big overhead light and turn on just a little soft 40Watt bulb and let them roam around. They love it. I have little food baskets on the branches and I put meal worms and things in it and they love it. Just recently I bought crickets and put them in a kritter keeper and when its semi dark in the bathroom they "sing". Its neat. Whe you walk in its like a little jungle. My babies love it. And the bathroom still looks cool even in the daytime.

Thanks for the reply! That sounds so cool and I'm sure the gliders love it. I still need to decide if I am getting sugar gliders or not. I want to get an exotic pet but am not sure which is right for me. Last night someone brought a really cute fennel fox outside and I got to play with it. It was SO much fun. I've decided to do a bunch of research and find out which pet is the best for me.
