pig potty training

Hello! I don't have a pig, but am curious... can they be litter trained? or do they let you know when they need to go outside to go to the bathroom? do they live inside like a dog? can you train them the same way you train a dog? thanks!

only had one a day and thats still at a friends farm till I can sort things out but from what i've researched you train umm just like you do a cat!! use a litter tray type thing and move muck into it and it'll start using the same place eventually.

also they tend to choose to do it outside, soon as their tail stops waggling and goes up (something like that I read) means they wanna go. I assume they'll go towards the door?

They are very smart! You litter train them in a big shallow litter pan/tray. I just use newspaper (less mess than litter). I put it at the back door and will be training her to go outside as soon as the snow is gone. She was much easier to train any dog I've ever had. They are alot like having a dog in the house...but they can't jump up on furniture and things. She is extremely social and loves any and all attention! She gets along well with all my other pets...dogs, cats, birds. And what a personality!!! Lea

Yep . my pig is 2 years old now, and I had him since he was a baby, the first day home I placed him in one of those long plastic sweater boxs. He pottied, and always pottied there untill he got to big at almost a year old. We then introduced him outside and now he doesn't use a litter box only wants to go outside. He walks to the back door and pushes it with his nose and the door makes a squeak sound. I let him out and when he is ready to come inside, he rubs his snout on the wall beside the door and it sounds like a chair is being moved around, but it is my piggy. They are soo smart.
And they do their business and come right back too, they are not potty shy like some doggies that make you wait forever. lol

My first pig was and indoor/outdoor pig, just like my dogs. Except , I had to house train my dogs. I never had to potty train my pig. He always came to me and snorted to get my attention, or wake me up if it was in the morning. Then he would go to the back door so I could let him out. He was a good pig, I miss him. My current pig doesn't like to come in as much, but when she is inside, she asks to go out when she is ready. She has never had an accident in the house.
I have an unrelated question. Does spaying females mellow them out any?

I read that it will mellow them out. Mine is not spayed but I was reading about it. It is suppose to stop the "piggie PMS" that they get. Although, mine doesn't really have any "symtoms"...yet anyway. She is about 7 months old so I would of thought she would have them by now. How does your piggie act?
