Hi there. My name's Joanne and I've enjoyed reading all the posts here. It's (to quote my mother) the "crack of dawn" here as I'm writing this, so I'm a bit sleepy, but I'm starting to feel a bit desperate, and need to reach out.
I and my neighbors have been caring for Buttercup and her sister Darwin, two feral (well, perhaps wild is a better term) females, for the past 6 months. We rescued, fostered, and were able to get homes for Darwin's 6 babies, then I trapped and caught Darwin and got her snipped. Meanwhile, Buttercup was pregnant. Buttercup must have known I'm the adoption agency because once they were 6 weeks or so old, she moved her 5 little ones into plain sight over the fence. Then after a few weeks when we were too slow to take the hint, she brought them up to my second floor porch. Being the accomodating grandma, I took in the little rugrats, and I've been taking care them for the past 6 weeks. They're about 15 weeks, give or take one, healthy, happy, and lively, with current shots and de-crittering (fleas, worms, etc.). I've got four boys left; the girl's been adopted. I love them lots, they're wonderful fun, but 1) I have two special needs adult cats (one who's old, grumpy, and diabetic) and 2) frankly I'm exhausted! Most importantly, these guys deserve their own mommies and/or daddies and the run of the house. My URL is home.earthlink.net/~berkana64/; click cats, then click kittens to see the babies; you're welcome to read the other pages, particularly the cat-related ones, too. If you are in the San Francisco area and are thinking of adopting a kitten, or know of someone who is, please let me know. I'd love to talk further and perhaps get good homes for these little loves. |

Good homes found by a great organization!
An update: After a lot of searching, flyer-posting, and getting out the word, I still hadn't found satisfactory homes. I called several organizations and was able to find Pets in Need, a local no-kill shelter. They usually only take animals from other organizations, saving them from "death row", but after describing the little muffins, they were happy to have them. They knew they'd have good homes for them shortly: They had a waiting list for kittens and were excited that these were healthy, happy, and ready for mommies and daddies.
Three of the fellas went to Pets in Need. I couldn't help myself, though; one I'd especially fallen in love with stayed with me and my two older cats. And the four of us - me, 13 yr old Wacky, BBBOB (of indeterminate age, since he's a stray), and 8 month old Mojo - are happy and doing great. For kitty pics and bios: http:////home.earthlink.net/~berkana...ackybobmo.html Take care! -joanne Last edited by berkana64; 05-03-02 at 12:04 AM 05-03-02. |
