The Sign

It was the day after his birthday, a day before his,
Doufes was something I knew I would miss.
I missed him so much and his wet, sloppy kiss.

I needed a sign that he was ok,
Forever, that’s how long I wanted him to stay,
But, to my demise, it didn’t end that way.
Instead, heart failure on Valentine’s Day.
I died that day, but still I pray,
I prayed for a sign that he was ok.

July 4th, that was the day I met him,
A Brittany whose name was Rascal, he wasn’t very slim,
And he bit me, but reminded me to keep up my chin.

That’s what Doufes would want me to do,
He’d want me to be like him, never blue.
He was the one thing in my life that was always true.

Rascal was what I needed that day, my sign,
I know now that my heart will heal in time.
I’ll always have Doufes’s memories, and he’ll always be mine.

I needed a sign that Doufes was ok,

And I got the sign from Rascal, that Doufes was ok.
