Mr. Watson How old are the babies? Was it outside the cage, or just the nest? Have you already touched the runt. The mother may have moved the runt out of the nest, so she can take better care of the others. She may have a feeling that it will die anyways, so she doesnt want to use her time and energy caring for it. My hamster recently had babies. I give her 4 drops of KMR liquid kitten milk, 4 times a day, and I have a 100 percent survival rate as of now. So maybe give her some kitty milk, or scrambled eggs, some type of protein, and maybe she will not abandon anymore. But chances are she left the runt for the good of the other pups. Good Luck, and I would love to see pics!

Theres probably nothing you can do unfortunately. Babies under 10 days or so rarely rarely make it when handfed. I had two runts in my litter, one died. The other I handfed as well as kept her with mom and she made it. But I think she was a special case since mom trusted me enough to touch her babies so she didn't kill any. Out of 13 babies only 5 survived unfortunately. I don't know if she left them to die or they died already because I found them outside of the nest dead. Its sad, but its common in hamsters, especially first time moms.
