Smile Tia...Earth ta TIA!! lol

Hey tia, i was just wondering if you can help me with the genetic makeup of hamsters and stuff you need to know before breeding. Like if you breed certain kinds of hamsters, the babys can be born eyeless. The reason why im asking you is becuase i know you know alot about it. Remember when i first bred? the reason why i did that is becuase my neighbor, is a very nice girl about 18 years old now and she gave me my first hamster. but shes been breeding for generations and the hamster she gave me was apart of her first generation and is the last of it alive. so i bred it to keep the generation going instead of ending and im giving her one of the babys. But im deciding i think i will breed one of the babys again when they're like 5 months or so. So im asking for your help. do you have Yahoo messanger or Aim that i can talk to you on? those are the only things i have.. thanks.

Breeding hamsters sounds interesting. But how do you do put the male and female together if they will get in a fight?

Try this site. Hamster Genetics

And the two will only fight if the male is put in the females cage, or the female isn't in heat. If she is they shouldn't fight at all.

I've read about the eyeless hamsters. That happens if you breed 2 mottled hamsters together. The mottled gene is actually lethal (meaning if the baby gets the mottled gene from the mom AND the dad then they end up dying withing the first few weeks). Apparently there's 2 kinds of mottled genes but only one is found in north america (the one that also causes the hamster to have ruby eyes). So if you're thinking of breeding a mottled hamster, breed it with a non-mottled hamster. That way all the babies should be okay. Here's a website with a whole load of info on hammies. there's one article about breeding pairs to avoid. Good luck!
