Pot belly - the same as dwarf/mini??
I just got two pigs.
I was told they are "dwarf" pigs. They are full grown and the size of a medium dog. I used to own a pot belly male who became lame and had to be put down after not being able to walk for three months. The father of this first pig I owned is GIGANTIC. This leads me to believe that he was not a pot belly pig. His head is about 3 x 2 feet.... The mother is medium. Making my first pig not really a pot belly but a mix?? My question is aren't pot belly and dwarf or miniature pigs all the same breed? Or am I misunderstanding the guy I got them from. |

I'm sorry to read of the loss of your first pig...it sounds like he was a cross breed of a farm hog and a potbellied pig.
While healthy adult pigs can range between 70 and 150 lbs. there are larger and smaller, genetically. There is no such thing as a "teacup" potbellied pig...some unscrupulous breeders will market them as such...when in fact, they have stunted growth due to poor nutrition or starvaton. There are also breeders that will say that they are going to remain small, but they are mixed breed and are over 200 lbs. at maturity. |

Thanks!
Thanks very much for your reply. Also thanks for your condolences..
My male pig is very odd in shape- the former owner told me he was a dwarf- he has a long snout, is gray and white- pink nose, very boney and is tiny. He is the size of a Jack Russell Terrier. I just suspect that he is very young. My other pig is a chubby female who is expecting to farrow in any day now. I am going to have the little male fixed as soon as my female delivers... |

this is bibo--
![]() ![]() i have a bigger one right now that i've adopted just a few months ago and from what i've heard he was a mix too. his previous owner threw him away just because he got bigger. i think it must have been very hard for him because it took much longer for him to trust me. |
