My neighbor has about 6 dogs in his yard, two dogs had puppies, one of them was eating her puppies so they gave them to the other dog to nurture and she accepted them. Now the puppies are 13 wks old, one of the puppies got a little to close to the other female dog and she grabbed it and ate it. My children witnessed the whole horrible act, now I have heard of female dogs eating their puppies if something is wrong with it, but she didn't even nurture her puppies. What would make a dog commit such a horrible act? I want to know what I can do because this is the dogs 3rd litter at least and I knows she has eaten a whole litter of puppies.

Unfortinitly it is not against the law to have puppies. However you can contact your shelter or aniaml control place and tell them what you know and what your children saw. Keep a record of everything. Pitctures are helpful as long as it doesn't violate their privacy. You can also contact the ASPCA and HSUS for help and guidlines.
I would think the dog is doing this because she doesn't know any better and doesn't want the puppies. Poor girl. |

Thanks Brandy, but I kind of think that she's doing this because she's hungry. I have two dogs and sometimes when I feed my dogs I will try and throw something to the dogs next door, but I can't afford to feed my dogs and theirs too. And I hate to look next door and see those dogs outside in the cold or rain and hungry. I believe he loves his dogs but I just wish he would feed them more and stop letting his dogs breed with each other and he can't afford to take care of the puppies. I'm trying to be a good neighbor and not meddle but this is really getting out of hand, its starting to affect my children emotionally, do you think I can make an anonymous tip to an animal shelter or something?

No you can't do this without being a witness. YOU HAVE TO GET ENVOLVED or they will continue to suffer.
He does not love his dogs if he is keepiong them this way. You can call annominsouly (SP) and ask for information on what to do and how to go about it and what if any laws he is breaking. But in order for anyone to help these poor animals you really need to become involved. I had the chance to save a kitens life. However I did not see the man place the kitten in the trunk of his car on a 90+ degree day. The ONE person how saw this complained that something should be done. So I called it in and they wanted us to testifiy (her since she saw the man place the kit in the car and me to say I saw the man get in the same car) I was willing, however she didn't want to get involved. I have no idea if that kit made it home alive. All becasue one person didn't want to get envolved. |

O my goodness how sad. I have to agree that this man does not love his dogs. What if he treated his children like that? Would you than not want to get involved? Our pets are our family, people like your neighbor should not own pets. If he cannot afford to feed them or does not know how to care for them properly than he should not have them. Have you spoken with him? I would have told him about what the children had to witness. That is just sick. An animal may eat its young, but if a female animal does this over and over than it is up to the responsible owner to make sure that this female does not continue to eat her babies. There are too many pet owners out there like your neighbor. It angers me to hear about what has gone on. I will pray for those poor dogs, you may be their only hope. I know it is hard. But the way it sounds to me I do not think that you would have to be a witness, if you speak with someone at the ASPCA maybe they can send someone out to observe for themselves what is going on next door. It is true that you must live there and I could understand not wanting to have your neighbor mad at you, but talk to the people in your area, they will let you do so without the neighbor finding out. Give it a try and please let us know how this turns out. I do not know what I would do if my children had seen such a thing. I hope that they are alright and do not have nightmares. I will pray for you and your neighbor as well. Often good people do not realize what they are doing to their pets and we must find away to bring it to their attention. Good luck
