i was wondering if anyone has ever seen or used leashes for rats, and where they got them. If anyone has ever made leashes, what material have you used? i'd really like to have two for my girls, who love being outside.

I've heard of them, but never seen them in stores. I'd like to have two of them for my girls Ginger and Fiona also. We would have to be careful, though, cause ratties are so small and they have a lot of predetors out there in the big outdoors.

ohh mee! i have a ratty leash! its really for ferrets.. heh. well in petsMart and pets supermarket have them around here. i have a feret leash.
it HAS TO HAVE a loop for the head AND tummy! if not, they will just slip out. you have to have a doscile rat to have him or her on a leash, gettign them into it and haveing them on it on the ground. mien is in the shape of a figgure 8 and it tightens and loosens. you have to be really careful if makeing them! it could choke them, or they could slip out and if your rat doesent have a very strong bodn with you, will moste likley run away into the bushes! mine is made of a thick-ish !soft! ropse like thinggy! lol. it would be better to get an agustable rabbit or fettir leash indted of makeing one. its safer by far. they are only 4-5 bucks -mine was any way-

I have seen them at Petsmart! They are called Comfort Harness with Stretchy Stroller (Small) from Superpet. You can order it online if you don't live anywhere near a Petsmart. They are also fairly cheap, $4.99 to be exact. I found them in the ferret section. (Since they don't have a rat section, at least at the Petsmart near me. It's all kind of scatered around.
) Here's a link with a picture and more information: http://www.petsmart.com/small%5Fanimal/shopping/the%5Frat%5Fshop/cage%5Faccessories/products/product%5F27154.shtml I hope this helps. Also, could you post here if you decide to get one? I was debating whether or not to get one for myself. I would love to hear how they work out for you. Thanks. Alison |

i have one. i have put it on two of them and they throw themselves up against the side of the couch trying to get it off. it is quite sad. i think they would kill themselves to get it off.
it was only 5 bucks so i'm not too upset. |

When i had a rabbit it nearly strangled her. My ats love being out, i ope the cage and they come out onto the sofas. However lola rat is clever and cheeky she knows how to get onto the floor so she chews wires, so i am goin to have to put hose pipes round the wires as i gone through 4 home phones cause she chewed them.
